The Bateman Blaze Sports Program is for students in 5th - 8th Grades. Athletes have the opportunity to participate in full practice and game schedules that compete against neighboring Chicago Public Schools through We Got Game. Coaches work closely with athletes and families to develop sportsmanship, skills, perseverance in overcoming challenges, and teamwork in each student who chooses to participate! Registration typically aligns with FORGE Registrations. Please contact Mr. Nowak with any questions!
Student Qualifications
  • All students who wish to try out for a sport will need to complete a tryout recommendation form before the season begins.
  • Students will need to be recommended by at least 4 of their 8 current teachers in order to participate in tryouts.
  • This step adds another level of accountability and responsibility for our students-athletes.
  • Coaches will provide these forms to students.

Team Fees
  • Our team fee for all competitive sports will remain $50 per player.
  • If a player is placed on a practice team instead, the fee will be $25 per player to be part of the practice team.
  • Practice team members focus on skill development and will not be participating in games.
*Practice teams are based on the amount of students who are trying out for a team.

Practices
We will continue to schedule team practices both before and after school.  A full practice schedule will be distributed once we have our game schedule for each season.

Try-Outs & Commitment Expectations
Students who plan on trying-out for teams will be expected to attend off-season conditioning and training.  This schedule will be provided every season (fall, winter, spring).  If you are playing a sport in-season, you will not be expected to attend the other sessions during that season.

For example, if you are playing girls soccer in the spring, you will be expected to attend off-season sessions in the fall and winter.  If you also play another sport, such as volleyball or basketball, you will not have to attend soccer sessions while playing the other sport.
2025-2026 Tentative Try-Out Schedule:
6th-8th Graders Only

Fall/Girls Volleyball: August 25th and 27th
Fall/Boys Soccer: August 26th and 28th
Winter/Girls Basketball: December 1st and 3rd
Winter/Boys Basketball: December 2nd and 4th
Spring/Girls Soccer: March 17th and 19th
Spring/Boys Volleyball: March 16th and 18th
