Mariah VillaromanSpanish TeacherHello to all reading! My name is Mariah Villaroman, and I am the Spanish teacher for grades 4-8 here at Bateman. I am so grateful to be a part of the Bateman family!
I grew up in Hammond, Indiana, which is in the northwest corner of the state and borders the city. Being so close by, I lovingly call my hometown area "Fake Chicago." I attended Munster High School, where my favorite activities were the performing arts and writing for the newspaper. I went on to graduate from Indiana University in 2021 with licenses to teach Spanish and English as a New Language. I have been studying Spanish since grade school, and had two separate experiences taking classes and living abroad in Spain. Education and language learning have always been important values to me; my mom is a teacher, and my dad is an immigrant from the Philippines. Seeing the impact my mom made at her school and the struggles of my dad's non-native English abilities inspired me to enter education. The many cultures, languages, and stories of my students will drive our class activities and community building. Students will feel comfortable and relaxed to flourish in their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Please never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or just to say hello! If spotted out of the classroom, you will likely find me reading a wide array of fiction novels, going on walks along the lakeshore, trying new coffee shops, or buying ingredients for my latest baking concoction! |
