Melanie Noonan8th Grade ELAHello! My name is Ms. Noonan, and I love being part of the Bateman community. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2017 with degrees in English and Education as well as an endorsement in English as a Second Language. In 2016, I had the honor to do my student teaching in the 7th grade ELA classroom, and I could not imagine any other place I would want to start my life as a teacher. Currently, I am pursuing my masters to become a reading specialist through National Louis University.
I grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago with my parents and my four brothers. As the only girl in the family, I made sure to always bring a lot of noise and energy to the room, which I still love to do as a teacher. Outside of school, I spend most of my time with family and friends eating, shopping, reading, or watching Cubs games. In 8th grade, we use literature as a tool to navigate through what is happening in our community and the world around us. Reading has always played a crucial role in my life, and I love sharing the joy with others. We will use our year together to explore a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, including I am Malala, Red Glass, Dear Martin, The Hate You Give, and Gabi: A Girl In Pieces. Outside of the classroom, I love to stay involved within the Bateman community. On Thursdays, I co-run an after school program titled "GIRLS club," which stands for "girls in real life situations." In this club, we explore how to prepare for our lives beyond grade school. We work through various activities like setting a budget, community out reach, and much more. On Fridays, I play basketball with students before school. Both of these activities are wonderful ways for me to get to know my students outside of the classroom. I also enjoy being a member of our School Climate Team where we focus on promoting positive school climate for our students, teachers, and staff. |
