Chess Team
Director: Mr. Geisler (Member of United States Chess Federation and Illinois Chess Association Youth Committee)
Grades: K through 8th
How Students are Selected:
Generally, about 5 students from each participating grade level are selected after tryouts held in October. Students who participated in the previous year are automatically invited back on the team.
Practice:
Beginning in October, the Chess Club will meet twice a week. Free Chess Fridays will begin in late September.
What do students gain from being a part of the Chess Club?
Not only is chess one of the world's oldest games, but also it is a way for modern players to acquire several life skills. These include focusing, visualizing, thinking ahead, weighing different options, analyzing situations, and evaluating a plan.
