Kindergarten Registration occurs annually in early Spring!
Do you have a child ready for Kindergarten next school year? Are you new to the Bateman Community? Families living within the neighborhood boundaries of Bateman Elementary should register new students for the school year during the annual Registration Week! Please register as early as possible to help us with planning for the incoming Kindergarteners.
Make sure to check the Bateman calendar for important dates!
Neighborhood families can begin to register online beginning in Early April! In order to enroll your child in Kindergarten at Bateman, you must reside in our attendance boundaries (please check here: https://schoolinfo.cps.edu/schoollocator/index.html) and your son or daughter must turn 5 years old on or before September 1st. All families who reside outside of Bateman boundaries must apply through go.cps.edu.
Dual Language Enrollment Information
There are two entry points to the Bateman Dual Language Program: Preschool and Kindergarten.
Preschool: All families will enroll in a Dual Language classroom utilizing the Chicago Early Learning application process, which typically opens in early Spring. Families will indicate interest in the Dual program in the application. Students who are native Spanish speakers will have priority placement.
Kindergarten: Kindergarten Enrollment typically begins in May for all neighborhood families (see above). In the enrollment process, families will indicate their preference of Monolingual or Dual Language classrooms, though there is no guarantee of placement in a Dual classroom. Students who are native Spanish speakers and/or have participated in a Dual Language Preschool program will have priority placement. Families are typically notified in July of their child's placement for Kindergarten to allow for all families to enroll and receive proper classroom designation. Any child who is not placed in a Dual classroom who has expressed interest will be placed on a waitlist. Should more spots become available closer to the start of the school year, families will be notified in waitlist order.
If a child starts Kindergarten in a monolingual classroom and the family is still highly interested and willing to commit, the last point of entry for a non-dual background is the first semester of First Grade. This is to ensure ample amount of time for foundational skills to be acquired in both languages. If a child transfers to Bateman after First Grade, they will only be admitted into a Dual Language classroom if they were previously part of a Dual program or have bilingual language needs.
