Ms. Christine Alvarado8th Grade ELAHello! This is my second year at Bateman, but prior to that I spent 8 years teaching 7th grade at an International Baccalaureate program at another CPS school. This year is especially exciting for me, because it's officially my tenth year of teaching! Teaching in CPS is near and dear to my heart because I was a CPS student myself from kindergarten-12th grade. I was fortunate to have attended two wonderful CPS schools, and I truly believe that every single student deserves an outstanding public education.
Outside of school, I like to rock climb with my husband at our gym; take our 2 year old daughter, Penelope, to the park; and go for walks with our two dogs, Max and Holly. I love to read young adult novels so that I can provide recommendations to my students, and I also enjoy reading about history and people's experiences through non-fiction texts. I'm currently working on a master's in Educational Leadership, so my reading looks a little different these days! My parents grew up in the Philippines, and I grew up hearing them speak Tagalog, which is very similar to Spanish. I later learned Spanish in high school, and also spent some time living abroad in Spanish-speaking countries. So, if you or your child would like to communicate with me in Spanish, I'm happy and able to do so! Please forgive me, though, it's not perfect and is something that I'm always working on! |
