Prior to that, I was an English teacher in Tokyo, Japan. While in Tokyo, I developed a love of travel and do so whenever I can. Chicago is my hometown and I enjoy rooting for our hometown sports teams, especially the Cubs and the Blackhawks. In 6th grade social studies, we will start at the beginning of mankind and study history from around the globe. Our focus will be on ancient civilizations. Also, we will take occasional breaks from studying ancient history to focus on current topics and important events that will shape our future. Fifth grade students will explore American history, government structures, cultures, and interactions among peoples from the first Native peoples. through the late 1800s. Themes and understandings from this time period are tied to geography, culture, civics, and young people of today to broaden and make more relevant the lessons of history. |
