Anu Karavattuveetil

Middle School Science

Hello!  My name is Ms. Karavattuveetil and I am very excited to be part of the Bateman team!  I have been teaching science for the past 18 years in Chicago Public Schools, and biology is my specialty!  We will be observing, researching, experimenting,  and working together to be more globally aware.
Before becoming a teacher I was a dentist in Chicago for 12 years.  It was a wonderful career and I gained much life experience which has made me realize even more the importance of a strong educational foundation!
I am looking forward to working with you and learning more about our ever changing world!
Let's BE Bateman by empowering our students to be inclusive, kind, and well prepared for the future!
Please check your student's Google Classroom for daily happenings!

Bateman Teacher of the Month---honored :)

What is Science?
Science is investigating and observing the world around us to better
understand it.   By using the scientific process we can solve problems, invent, communicate, and create products and technology that can benefit our world.

Remember to DREAM BIG and think about ways we can make our world better.  Do we learn from our past?
Continue to observe the connections between living things and how they obtain their needs because if they don't they will not survive.   We will be looking at the Geological Time scale and we will see how life has evolved over the last 3.8 billion years and continues to evolve.

In 6th grade we will better understand EARTH Science and the following Unifying Principles:
  • Heat energy inside Earth and radiation from the Sun provide energy for Earth's processes.
  • Physical forces, such as gravity, affect the movement of all matter on Earth and throughout the Universe.
  • Matter and energy move among Earth's rocks and soil, atmosphere, waters, and living things.
  • Earth has changed over time and continues to change.

We will be using the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to study the following units:
Space Systems
History of Earth
Earth's Systems

Weather and Climate
Human Impacts

In 7th grade we will study LIVING THINGS and their connections to the world:
  • All living things share common characteristics.
  • All living things share common needs.
  • Living things meet their needs through interactions with the environment.
  • The types and numbers of living things change over time.

We will be using the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to study the following units:
Structure, Function, and Information Processing
Growth, Development, and Reproduction of Organisms
Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems
Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems

Natural Selection and Adaptations
