Katie ReedSecond GradeI grew up in Winfield, IL and West Chicago, IL. I have lived in four countries outside of the U.S.: Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Thailand. I love traveling to new places and trying new things.
I studied Spanish in high school, and I a spent a summer living in Costa Rica with a host family when I was 17. This sparked my love for languages and cultures and helped determine my college major! I studied Bilingual/Bicultural Education at Western Illinois University and student-taught in a Kindergarten Dual Language class in West Chicago. I am now in my 12th year teaching, and my 6th year at Bateman. Previously, I have taught 2nd and 3rd grade bilingual/dual classes in Aurora, IL and Denver, CO. After four years in Colorado, I accepted a teaching position for 6th, 8th, and 11th grade English in Thailand. I loved my time in Thailand, but I was happy to return to Chicago and begin a Masters program. I completed an MA in Language, Literacy, and Culture in 2016. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing kids grow in their confidence, courage, and compassion for others. |
Classroom Info
In second grade we focus a lot on supporting our ideas with evidence. We are always asking "How do you know?"
We also work hard to continue building students' independence and responsibility. They learn how to choose strategies that will help them read and understand independently, how to continue trying to solve difficult problems in math, and how to repair disputes between friends.
