Katie ReedSecond GradeI grew up in Winfield, IL and West Chicago, IL. I have lived in four countries outside of the U.S.: Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Thailand. I love traveling to new places and trying new things.
I studied Spanish in high school, and I a spent a summer living in Costa Rica with a host family when I was 17. This sparked my love for languages and cultures and helped determine my college major! I studied Bilingual/Bicultural Education at Western Illinois University and have taught in various transitional bilingual, ESL, and dual language programs over the past 13 years. Previously, I taught in Aurora, IL and Denver, CO. I then spent time teaching in Hat Yai, Thailand. I loved my time in Thailand, but I was happy to return to Chicago in 2014 to begin working at Bateman Elementary! I also started a Masters program in 2014 and graduated in 2016 with an MA in Literacy, Language, and Culture. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing kids grow in their confidence, courage, and compassion for others! |
Classroom Info
In second grade we focus a lot on supporting our ideas with evidence. We are always asking "How do you know?"
We also work hard to continue building students' independence and responsibility. They learn how to choose strategies that will help them read and understand independently, how to continue trying to solve difficult problems in math, and how to repair disputes between friends.
