Leticia CobarrubiasWorld LanguageHello Bateman Families!
My name is Leticia Cobarrubias and it is a privilege to be the Spanish teacher here at Bateman this year. I am extremely excited to meet every single one of you, I am even more excited at the opportunity to share my passion for the Spanish language with your children. I absolutely love being a teacher. The love of teaching and Spanish of these passions started at an early age for me. As a translator for my parents, I not only learned the importance of knowing my ancestors' language but also the importance of learning, teaching, and growing. My love for Spanish would continue to grow as used in my daily life to communicate with my loved ones and throughout my academic career. Education has always been incredibly important to me. I attended Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for elementary, middle, and high school. While a Student at CPS, I was blessed to have amazing teachers that have truly transformed me in many ways and I hope to have that same effect on my Students. After graduating from high school, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Education from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Thereafter, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have been lucky enough to be a Spanish teacher for four (4) years. All four years were spent at Carlos Fuentes Elementary School in the Avondale neighborhood. I am grateful for everything that I learned, the connections that I made with families and colleagues, and for the privilege of starting my career sharing my love for Spanish. I am beyond excited to continue my career at Bateman. I recently moved to the Irving Park neighborhood and have been dedicated to seeking opportunities to become closer to my community, including joining the wonderful Bateman community. You will definitely be seeing a lot of me in community events. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy listening to music, cleaning, drinking coffee, going to Target, hanging out with family and friends, enjoying new restaurants, traveling, and running. Most recently I was lucky enough to travel to Portugal and Spain, which really allowed me to test my Spanish knowledge. I was also able to run my very first half-marathon. I am excited for all of you to get to know more about me and to meet you all! Please feel free to email me with any comments, questions, or concerns. I am eager to start working together to ensure success in our students. |
