Sarah Howland

2nd Grade

¡Hola!

Hi! My name is Ms. Howland and I love being one of the 2nd grade dual language teachers at Bateman.

This is my ninth year as a teacher and my fourth year at Bateman. In the past I taught in the Little Village neighborhood and also in New Haven, Connecticut.

I hold a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Chicago. I began learning Spanish when I was in first grade and my family moved to Spain for a year. I'm constantly learning more and more Spanish from my mini-professors: my students!

Classroom Info

In second grade we focus a lot on supporting our ideas with evidence. We are always asking "How do you know?"

We also work hard to continue building students' independence and responsibility. They learn how to choose strategies that will help them read and understand independently, how to continue trying to solve difficult problems in math, and how to repair disputes between friends.
