Mrs. SlotaSecond GradeThis year will be my 24th year of teaching. I began my career at Bateman and consider Bateman my second family. My years have been spent teaching everything from Kindergarten to third grade; the bulk of my years being in 2nd grade.
I began my college career, like many, confused with what I wanted to do with my life. I dabbled in computer science, accounting, and political science. When I finally took stock of my life, I realized I wanted to be a teacher. I had volunteered at the Chicago Park District teaching kids swimming and boating skills. I volunteered in high school as an English tutor. And in college, I tutored juvenile detention residents to obtain their GEDs. It was at this point, I noticed a pattern. I want to be a teacher. Now, I live in the Edison Park area of Chicago with my family. My 3 children are CPS students, and I can't be prouder of them. My oldest is in her last year of high school about to complete a rigorous academic program. My second is starting high school for profound and special needs. My third is entering 7th grade with a IEP for a learning disability. All this to say that I will be knowledgeable and understanding of all kind of needs. Despite my many years of teaching and my varied background, I am still a learner and am excited to learn from you and your children. |
