Peggy Butler8th GradeWelcome to 8th grade math! My hope for all my students this year is your time to shine. All your Bateman teachers have been working hard to provide you with the best opportunities to learn and grow. Soon we will be getting to know you as people and learners, and will be working together to set goals to help each of you achieve greatness. I am very excited to help you reach every goal you set this year!
I would like to take a moment to share a little about myself. I have had the pleasure to teach at Bateman for 27 years. I always wanted to become a teacher; when I was little, I'd gather up the neighborhood children and play pretend school and teacher with them. Teaching was my personal goal for as long as I can remember! I have always loved math, so becoming a math teacher was a perfect fit! I started at Bateman right after graduating from DePaul University. I hold a masters degree in education from Olivet Nazarene University. Personally, I have two children, two crazy Beagle puppies, and an obsession with hockey. Don't be too surprised when Reagan, Declan, and the Blackhawks pop up in our math lessons. |
Classroom Info
Homework
Homework will be given to reinforce classroom learning. If classwork tasks are unfinished, students may also work on those at home. Students may also use Freckle to practice skills.

Classwork
This year the majority of our daily work will be inside the student's math books. Which will hold all classwork and notes. It is very important that these books are brought to class daily. At home, students should review their notes and complete practice problems they have created. My intention is that these books be used as a study tool for tests and quizzes. Parents, I encourage you to discuss the activities in these books with your children. The more your children discuss what they are learning, the more they will gain a firm understanding of the math.

Freckle
Students will again be using Freckle, a computer program to practice math skills. This can really help students grades and increase their math knowledge. The site can be found through the students cps id portal. I suggest students start with the adaptive practice tab.
