"Without libraries, what do we have?
We have no past and no future.”

- Ray Bradury

Welcome to
Bateman Library's Helpful Links

Bateman Library Catalog
See what books we have in the school library -- including access to electronic books. Search by title, author, subject, genre and even reading level! To search by reading level go to "LS2 PAC." Then enter the name of the program and the level, e.g. "Lexile 780" or "Fountas and Pinnell P."

Chicago Public Library
The Chicago Public Library has 80 physical locations, including a central library, two regional libraries, and branches distributed throughout the city. The CPL is offering temporary e-Cards to students that do not currently have a Chicago Public Library card. With a card, students are able to take advantage of the many digital books and other online services offered.

CPS Recommended Reading Lists
The Recommended Reading Lists are created by the Department of Literacy: Libraries team in collaboration with teams of CPS librarians. These lists feature recommended newer books, which are quality, critically reviewed literature. The books on the various lists are carefully selected to highlight diversity, the power of peace, the Spanish language and/or to align to the curriculum and general interests of students.

CPS Library Databases
To use these outstanding resources, check with Mrs. Kelly for username/password. In many cases, the information in the databases has been created specifically to help students working on research-related projects.

Dewey Decimal Games
Use these games to check your knowledge of the Dewey categories.

Dictionary and Thesaurus
This is a student-friendly dictionary and thesaurus. The site also includes Alpha-bot, the word-spelling robot, who hosts a word game and challenges spellers of all ages.

Kid Rex
A kid friendly search engine for kids, by kids powered by Google.

Order in the Library/Orden en la Biblioteca
Shelving practice - includes simple sorting (Level 1) through alpha and Dewey Decimal reordering (Level 11).

Plagiarism/Citations
Follow this tutorial to review why citations are important.

The Smithsonian Institution Archive Collections
Search the Smithsonian Institution Archives’ collections, which contain the official records of the Smithsonian, as well as personal papers, special collections, records of professional societies, and oral/video histories.
