Check out this message from some fellow CPS Students taking action:

Our names are Phoebe Koehler and Sinead O’Sullivan, and we are writing about our organization called One Card at a Time. We are 8th graders at Whitney Young Academic Center and Taft Academic Center, respectively. Our voluntary association distributes cards made by elementary school students in Chicago to local elderly facilities to combat the loneliness that many residents of these shelters feel during these times. Our mission is to brighten the day of as many senior citizens as we can one card at a time. Our poster, which includes sample cards that we wrote, along with simple instructions for how to participate, is below. If you would like to see examples of other cards that we have received or if you would like more information about One Card at a Time, please visit our website at onecardatatime.com.

Thanks in advance for helping us make a difference one card at a time.

Best,
Phoebe and Sinead

Buenos dias, Bateman students, parents and staff!
Today is Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
Good morning, Bateman Families and Friends,

We hope you are well and staying safe.  Please be reminded of a few supports that have been put into place to help you navigate the world right now and hold discussions with your children.  Today and tomorrow, Ms. Rivera and Ms. Asher, our wonderful counselor and social worker, will be hosting open sessions for students and parents alike.  This is a safe space to talk through emotions children may be feeling and questions they may have.

Google Meets: Support
Wednesday, June 3 from 2:00pm - 2:45pm
5th - 8th Grade students only

Google Meets: Support
Thursday, June 4 from 2:00pm - 2:45pm
PK - 4th Grade students with parent or guardian

Please see below for additional online book lists and resources:
  • Sesame Street Open Town Hall: Coming Together - Standing Up to Racism: June 6th at 9am
  • The Conscious Kid: Critical Conversations
  • Embrace Race

Student Material Pick Up
As we wind down the end of the school year, we invite parents and guardians to begin coming to the building to pick up their child's belongings and return any items that were at home that belong to the school.
  • Each grade level is designated a day to pick up materials.  Each homeroom is given one hour to pick up their child's things.
  • All pickups will be at Door 4.
  • Parents and guardians are to practice social distancing and masks must be worn. We will be using social distancing measures similar to chromebook distribution.
  • Please return any items that belong to the school, such as Library Books or borrowed items from a classroom teacher.  All families will keep chromebooks until next year with the exception of 8th Grade and students who are transferring!
