Bateman Broadcast

Buenos dias, Bateman students, parents and staff!
Today is Monday, March 30, 2020.

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

It's hard to believe that we have not all been together for two whole weeks!  Although we have new platforms to interact, we hope you feel as connected as we do to our amazing school community.

Bateman has been continuously providing 130-150 breakfast/lunches to families in our neighborhood on a daily basis. We have a small team working together here to make this all possible and are forever grateful to Ms. Virginia and her team for making sure everyone’s basic needs are met throughout this unprecedented time.  A big thank you to Bonnie, Betsy, Rosalva, Carmen, Maria, Emma, Mr. Charles, and Mr. Freddy for your commitment to the Bateman Family! If you see any of them, please be sure to show your appreciation for their willingness to come into the school each and every day. They are essential to making sure students are provided food and nutrition on a daily basis.

Throughout this week, Chicago Public Schools will be sharing a new plan for city-wide Remote Learning.  We will be sending more details as we learn alongside you what this plan will mean for Bateman. This has been a large learning curve for our entire community but we are incredibly proud of how our educators and families have collaborated to ensure learning continues.  You should expect to learn more around overall expectations, accessibility to teachers, and further clarity around student work. Although we acknowledge that learning has looked differently from home to home, many components of the Remote Learning Plan have already been established in the Bateman community.  We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to support each child to the best of our ability and that you also acknowledge the persistence, care, and hard work of each of our educators!

Last week, our teachers met with us virtually several times as Grade Level Teams, Instructional Leaders, and School Climate advisors to brainstorm our plan for continued support for our students. Teachers have been reaching out to every student via Class Dojo, Google Classroom, phone calls, and email as advised by the CPS Acceptable Use Policy.  Activity packets remain available to all families at the Lunch Pick Up on Sacramento from 9am - 1pm in addition to any online materials shared with students. Each child has authentic and engaging learning tasks available to them electronically or in paper form. If you have been struggling to find learning activities for your child, please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support during this time as we navigate this new way of learning and living.

Today and always, we are proud to #BeBateman!

Stay healthy,

Georgia and Kate

Daily Brain Break

Time to move our bodies and center our brains!

Practice Belly Breathing from our 2nd Step Curriculum at home! Remind children to breathe in slowly through their nose and exhale through their mouth. A variation is to breathe in a memory of feeling safe and happy, and breathe out the uncomfortable, panic-related feelings. Try it before starting an academic assignment to focus or after a stressful event to calm down.

Activity Central

Time to get busy!

Did you know that Scholastic Magazine has a reading and activity planned per grade level for three full weeks?  Click here to check out that engaging readings and fun tasks!

Independent Work Time!

Time to grow our brains!

Students, please remember to complete your daily assignments from your teachers!  Reach out to your teachers if you have any questions about your work.  Also, please remember to follow the Blaze Ways: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful!  Parents, have those Blaze Bucks ready!
Have a great day everyone! We miss you!

Stay healthy,
Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper
