Bateman Broadcast

Buenos dias, Bateman students, parents and staff!
Today is Friday, April 24, 2020.
Network 1 Earth Day 2020 Poster Contest!

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

A big congratulations to Alvaro T. in fifth grade for representing Bateman and being chosen as one of the winners in the Network One Heal the World Earth Day Poster Contest!  Congratulations!

Thank you to each of you who took the time to meet with your child's teacher on Wednesday for what turned out to be a great Report Card Pick Up Day!  We are appreciative of the support you showed each of our teachers and are grateful for the feedback our teachers were able to share with us based on your discussions.  Chicago Public Schools will be sending report cards in the mail within the next week. Please keep a look out for your child's report card. If you have moved or changed an address, please email
bateman@cps.edu to update your information.

A final note of gratitude for all who came to support our school at Sonic on Wednesday for the Bateman Boosters Dine to Donate!  What a fabulous turnout!  We hope it provided a fun way to get out of the house!

Please continue to reach out to your teachers and to the school if you need anything at all.  We recognize that there are still many unknowns and everyone's reality is vastly different but please know that we are here to help in any way we can.

As we said last week, turn off the technology, go for a walk and enjoy your family time this weekend!  We are grateful that you choose to #BeBateman now and always!

Warmest regards,

Georgia & Kate

Community Testing for COVID-19

Swedish Hospital has expanded COVID-19 testing for patients who meet the CDC and IDPH criteria. To determine if you need a COVID-19 test, call Swedish Hospital’s free COVID-19 Help Line at 773-907-7700 or begin screening online.

Your results will be evaluated by a Swedish Hospital clinical expert, who may recommend testing in our convenient drive-through tent. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR TESTING. Learn more at SwedishCovenant.org/tent.

Testing at Swedish Hospital will come at no cost to patients. Uninsured will be offered free testing and follow up care will be managed through the hospital’s financial assistance and charity program. Those who are insured will not be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs related to being tested for COVID-19.

For information about COVID-19, safety behaviors and prevention, please visit SwedishCovenant.org/covid.

Newly Launched:

  • Big Green at Home website with pages dedicated to families and educators. It features weekly activities, lessons, recipes, demos, and many other projects that are easy to implement with common household items. This would be great to share as a link on your school website or in your teacher communications.

  • PK-8 garden, food, and nutrition curriculum Ready, Set, Grow! is free and open-source to download.

  • Online Food Literacy Course for Educators: If you or your colleagues are looking for remote professional development opportunities during this time, we are offering this course at no cost. It provides a deep dive into food, nutrition, food systems, and more. Let me know if you have questions--I’m happy to provide more detail.

  • Big Green Educator Group on Facebook to foster collaboration amongst teachers across the nation. I hope you’ll join us (and other teachers!) in conversation there while we can’t be together in person.

  • Big Green Educator Book Group: monthly book groups organized around our Food Literacy Framework.
