I am excited and honored to be recognized as the January Teacher of the Month! The staff at Bateman is truly a family and I am fortunate to be a part of it. Although I was born in Florida, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with my twin brother and older sister. I attended Illinois State University where I obtained my teaching degree with a concentration in Special Education. My career as a Chicago Public Schools' teacher began in the Little Village neighborhood where I taught 7th and 8th graders. Five years later, I had the opportunity to join the staff at Bateman. Over the past two school years, I've had the incredible opportunity to support eighth grade students and their families. One phrase that we like to keep in mind in 8th grade is, "Practice Makes Better," because none of us are perfect, but we can always try to be and do better. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading new books, spending time with my family and friends, and being active. I am currently reading Michael Vey: Rise of Elgen, My favorite spot to vacation is a cabin in Michigan surrounded by nature, and my favorite work out right now is playing Friday morning basketball at Bateman School. |
