We are proud to present Ms. Josefina Nava as May’s Teacher of the Month! Josefina Nava has many roles, all of which she loves. Among her most important roles are that of being a mother, wife, and of course, teacher. She was born and raised in South Chicago to immigrant parents who placed a major emphasis on education. They gave her the support she needed to persevere and succeed. She attended Illinois State University in Normal, IL and graduated in May, 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, minoring in Spanish. She feels blessed to have started her teaching career at Bateman Elementary and is currently celebrating her 10th year as an educator. Working with Bateman staff members, the community, and most importantly, the students at Bateman the past 10 years, have helped her to grow and gain an extended family while doing what she loves. She began her career as an EL Resource/ Spanish teacher and also taught Spanish as a Foreign Language. Currently she teaches an aspiring and inspiring second grade class who keeps her on her toes. In 2010 Ms. Nava was married. She is the mother of two wonderful children, ages 12, and 4. She enjoys reading a good book, spending quality time with her family and friends, and watching her students grow. Ms. Nava has volunteered her time at various school events, serves as an active member of the Science Committee, and provides intensive intervention instruction to 2nd graders in the Ready Readers after-school program. Her talents are limitless! Congratulations, Ms. Nava! We appreciate your dedication to our Bateman Community! |
