Mar. 13, 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), As of the latest directive received this afternoon, all before and after school programs are suspended until April 12 or until further notice. This means no chess practices or events for the next few weeks, including the upcoming playoffs and championships. I am sorry that we must take these measures, but I hope that everyone understands and remains patient. I will attempt to set up a tournament on chesskid.com, but please encourage your child to keep their skills sharp. But most importantly, stay safe and informed. We will get through this. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Mr. Geisler Member: United States Chess Federation, Illinois Chess Association, Chicago Chess Foundation

Feb. 24, 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Congratulations to our players and grade-level teams for their recent tournament success! At the last CCF tournament in January, the K-4 Novice team earned a 1st place trophy, while the K-6 Novice team also got an award with a 2nd place finish. At the Greater Chicago Championships at the beginning of this month, the K-3 and K-9 Reserve teams both earned 1st place honors. There were several individual awards as well. This is great momentum for the upcoming championship season in March and April.

Feb. 4, 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), In order to prepare for some of the upcoming state and national chess events, I am requesting that parents complete the form below to indicate your interest and availability. Please return the form by Fri. 2/7. The most immediate priority is the IL State Championships in Schaumburg on Mar. 21-22. This opportunity requires early registration and planning as an official field trip. Lastly, the K-12 National Championship in Columbus, OH is scheduled for April 3-5. Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Nov. 14, 2019 Congratulations to all of the players who made it out to the first tournament of the school year at Brooks High School! Thank you to all of the parents for your patience with many of the issues that came up with the tournament operations, and your understanding that I felt obligated to step in to assist with the management of the tournament. It was difficult for me to be away from the team for most of the event, and I appreciate all of the parents who helped maintain the team room. We have a few changes to our schedule as a result of makeup days for the practices that were missed during the strike. Instead of having Free Chess Fridays, we will have four extra practices on the following Fridays: 11/22, 12/6, 12/13, and 12/20. These are now practice sessions, which means that attendance is expected on these days, instead of optional. These extra practices will be a great opportunity to get some more focused attention on strategies that will help students not only in chess, but also in life. Here are a few reminders about All-Stars activities and expectations for the rest of November and into December:
If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at [email protected] or (773)534-5055. Sincerely, Mr. Geisler

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Due to some scheduling conflicts, the Nobel Invitational has been postponed. There will be no tournament this weekend. As soon as the event has been rescheduled, we will let you know. Also, in the event of a strike, any practices or events that are scheduled will be canceled. To make planning easier this week, I am canceling all practices that were scheduled. There will be no chess club or All-Stars practice on Thu. (10/17). I apologize for any inconvenience and I appreciate your understanding. For now, we are preparing for the next tournament on the schedule, which is the first CPS event, the All-Stars Tournament scheduled for Sat. Oct. 26 at Chicago Vocational High School. A flyer will be sent home, but there is also information on the Bateman Chess Team website: http://bateman.cps.edu/bateman-chess.html. As a reminder, you can also see the posted practice schedule there as well. Remember to sign up for email alerts on the team website as well, in case I need to send out any updates online. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at [email protected] or (773)534-5055. Sincerely, Mr. Geisler Download Newsletter CC_CAS_2 |
