Essentials Weekly Learning Plans

Dear Bateman Families,

We hope this message finds your family healthy and well. We wanted to share with you some important information regarding the weekly Essentials Schedules you have been receiving from your child’s classroom teacher.

Essentials teachers are working hard to ensure your child still has access to the arts and physical education throughout Remote Learning. The weekly schedules that are shared with the community have a wide range of activities for students to complete at their convenience throughout the week. Certain assignments have due dates which should be indicated in the weekly plan.  However, please utilize these schedules as you best see fit! If you’d like to have Art every Monday, go for it! If you want to have your children participate in Physical Education and Music on Friday, that’s great! If your child is done for the day and just needs a break, we completely understand. Make this work for YOU!

We understand that all families are doing their very best to support their children under these circumstances and are so grateful for your partnership. We encourage you to reach out to the Essentials teachers if you have any questions regarding specific assignments!

All the best,

Georgia and Kate

Bateman Remote Learning Plan

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

Happy Spring Break!  We miss you all so much! As we have continuously stated, we know this time brings much uncertainty but we are so proud of all of our families who have not only been working from home, but also teaching your children.  We understand how difficult this is as we are trying to navigate it ourselves and want you to know that we are here for you! We also want to express our sincerest gratitude to our entire community for your patience, understanding, and support as we are all on a huge learning curve together.  Now more than ever, we feel our community working together!

We truly believe that open and constant communication is the best way to remain connected throughout this unprecedented time. Please know that we are doing our best to inform our community in a timely manner so that all families know of upcoming changes.  This message contains a large amount of information regarding shifts in our approach to teaching and learning in the district and ask that you read it in its entirety.

As we continue together throughout the school closure, Bateman will remain a site for lunch pick up between the hours of 9:00 am - 1:00 pm by Door 6.  We will also continue to distribute District Created Resources upon request for those who do not have access to a printer.  That being said, all students should focus on plans created by their teacher through our new style of learning, Remote Learning, which is clearly outlined below.

Remote Learning

Click Here to view Bateman’s Remote Learning Plan

Our teachers have been working diligently to create our Remote Learning Plan, which will start after Spring Break on Monday, April 13th.  Per district guidance, “Remote Learning” is the new platform through which all CPS Students will learn.  If you haven’t already been in touch with your child's homeroom teacher, please contact him/her immediately via email to find out what assignments the class has been working on.  You can obtain all email addresses on our website HERE.

In the school wide plan, you will find information on how teachers will be communicating, daily learning expectations for students, and how to contact a staff member during office hours if you or your child needs assistance.

What this plan will look like:

  • Each grade level will email a weekly schedule to parents by Monday morning of each week.  This plan will include daily learning tasks, time suggestions, and a schedule for any virtual engagement opportunities (ie: Zoom call or Google Hangout).

  • Each grade level has identified a learning platform for their students to participate in new content each day, Monday-Friday:

    • PK - 2nd Grades: SeeSaw or Google Classroom / Zoom

    • 3rd - 8th Grades: Google Classroom

  • Students are expected to participate and will receive feedback from teachers weekly.  Per ISBE, grades will be collected; however, they will not negatively alter any child’s academic standing.  Grades will be measured based on how much the student is engaging and participating.

  • Teachers will continue meeting with administration weekly to discuss progress and support needed for individual families.

Technology Distribution

Technology Distribution is designed to support Remote Learning.
Please see schedule below.

Our goal is to ensure our students are able to do remote online learning moving forward. We understand many students already have access to a device and/or won't want the liability of the school's chromebook during the closure.  As a school, we have decided to distribute chromebooks that we will need returned once school resumes inside the building. These are the devices our students use on a daily basis, so please take good care of them!

This distribution (April 8th & 9th) is designed for PARENTS (please do not bring your children) to come to retrieve, sign a Permission Slip and take the chromebook & charger. Distribution will take place this week outside of Door 4 (Berteau & Richmond).  Devices will be distributed one per family.  For families needing assistance accessing the internet, please click HERE.

Teachers have been surveying families for technology needs and will be contacting you this week if you should come to retrieve a device for your child(ren).  If you are not contacted this week and still feel as though your family needs a device, please email Bateman@cps.edu with the subject line: NEED DEVICE. This will help us ensure that families who are in need of a device the most receive one first.

For safety reasons and to ensure our technology is properly accounted for, we put together the guidelines below to keep everyone safe who has been contacted to come to get your device:

  • We will have cones set up 6 feet apart leading up to the Door 4. This will create a line, but also practice social distancing at the same time.

  • When you reach the 1st spot in line, your Chromebook/charger will be retrieved and placed on a table for pick up, while you fill out the permission slip and place it in the box.

  • Please bring identification to show you are a guardian of the student.  We will be verifying family members at pick up to ensure proper distribution.

  • The permission slip details the responsibility of the device & policies listed below Chicago Public Schools - Acceptable Use Policy.

  • Please bring your own pen to fill out the form if you have not done so prior.

*Remember we are unable to let anyone in the building, so we feel this is the best option to distribute the chromebooks. Please know, these are the only 2 days we will be passing them out. We truly appreciate your patience!

Please remember, this is only for families who DO NOT have any device at home. Only 1 per family.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns by email at Bateman@cps.edu.  You may also call the Main Office (773-534-5055) starting on Monday, April 13th between the hours of 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Sending all of our families warm wishes for a healthy and safe Spring Break!

Warm regards,

Georgia and Kate

**ONLY 1 PER FAMILY**

    • PK - 2do Grados: SeeSaw o Google Classroom / Zoom

    • 3º - 8º grado: Google Classroom

Georgia y Kate
