9/26/2017

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the Emerald City Theatre One Fund Grand Prize Residency valued at $10,000 which will allow us to continue exposing our students to literature and theatre.  Chicago Public School CEO Forrest Claypool surprised us with a visit and even participated with our students!  It was such a nice way to start the week.

Bateman Receives Fine Arts Grant from Ingenuity

9/15/2017

CPS has recognized Bateman as a category 1 fine arts school which means we are a school that excels in regards to fine arts, because of this we were able to receive a $1,000 grant from Ingenuity!

Each year, grant levels are determined based on a number of factors:
  • The number of schools that become certified as Creative Schools and % of certified schools achieving Category 1 status
  • Total funding available, usually made up of public and/or private sources

As a non-profit, not a foundation, Ingenuity raises money each year for granting directly to Chicago Public Schools. We are thankful to have received a grant from them!

Congratulations, Bateman will take part in the Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education  Collaboration Laboratory

Bateman is 1 of 10 new schools to become part of the CAPE network in the Fall of 2017. These new schools will become part of a Collaboration Laboratory (or “Co-Lab”) program, which introduces participants to CAPE’s approach to arts integration.
The Bateman fine arts department will receive
  • Teaching artists. CAPE will partner teachers with artists also new to CAPE, to form an arts integration team for the school.
  • Professional development. Teachers, with their partner artists, will attend after-school CAPE professional development meetings on arts integration, inquiry and big idea-based teaching and learning, collaboration and co-teaching, documentation, dissemination, and more.
  • Planning time. CAPE will provide facilitated planning time for teachers and artists at our professional development meetings, and at their school settings.
  • Arts integration classroom unit. In the spring, participating teachers and artists will be supported (through teaching artists hours and supply budget) in co-teaching an arts integration unit in their classrooms.

Bateman Welcomes Mission Propelle's Girl Power Yoga Club!

9/11/2017

Picture
Mission Propelle empowers girls in elementary school to discover who they are, what they believe, and how to advocate for themselves. We accomplish this through an after-school program that combines yoga, reading, and mentoring. In each one-hour class, girls develop mindfulness, deep breathing techniques, and self-confidence as they practice yoga. They learn how to solve problems by reading original storybooks starring Dottie Tov, a relatable and age-aligned female protagonist. The girls discuss the content of the book and how it relates to their own life. Throughout class, girls learn to apply leadership skills in their everyday lives as they receive situation-based mentorship from trained instructors. All girls receive digital downloads of the original storybooks each week!

Class runs every Thursday from 3:45-4:45 starting 9/28 and ending 12/7. No class on 11/23.

ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE A T-SHIRT! *Collect a new shirt each term.
New students receive their very own yoga mat!
Grades 1-5
