Seven Bateman fifth and sixth graders presented their Citizens Now project on May 19th at the Mikva Challenge Action Civics Showcase held at the Chicago Cultural Center. The students demonstrated all of the skills they have gained during their 12-week Citizens Now Program at Bateman. Dozens of judges and visitors questioned them about their project and at the end of the event, presented Bateman with the Showcase's award for excellence in community research. Citizens Now is an after-school program that highlights themes of trust, communication and self-confidence and seeks to create active citizens who can identify and address community issues." Bateman Chess Team This weekend, Bateman’s chess team competed in the final Youth Chess Foundation of Chicago tournament of the school year at Burbank School. Congratulations to the K-4 and Advanced teams for finishing in 1st place in their sections! Ten different Bateman players earned individual honors, including the Salas brothers, Christopher and Frankie who both won 4.5 points in 5 rounds.
