Bateman students had the opportunity to meet Lucy Meyer, a five-time Special Olympics gold medalist in swimming. Lucy is a global champion for children with disabilities. Since 2015, Lucy has served as the Spokesperson for the Special Olympics – UNICEF USA Partnership for children with disabilities. She has passionately used her platform to make sure children of all abilities have fun and learn about having friends, working together and being part of a community.

2nd Grade Problem Solvers Share their Solutions with our Alderman RodriguezOur 2nd grade Problem Solvers put their ideas into action! Each student researched a problem that is meaningful in their lives and important to them. After studying activists in our world, they were inspired to create solutions to each problem they researched! Alderman Rosanna Rodriguez visited each classroom to learn about the problems that resonate with our 2nd Grade Activists and listened to their feedback and solutions! We hope to see their solutions in action in our community soon! Thank you for your visit!Our 1st and 2nd grade students have been studying Favianna Rodriguez’s social justice posters, which are the on display from I Paint My Mind in the auditorium hallway, and used her collage and line style as inspiration for their own self portraits. Third Grade The Art of Informational Writing How-To experiences that explain a step-by-step procedure on a topic, convey ideas and present information clearly! Come learn with us! Fourth Grade Weather Experts in Action! Meteorologists will be sharing their hard work on the research they conducted on two different extreme weather topics! Students will be showcasing their work in math, science, and social studies that will highlight their understanding of the concepts that were studied in the 2nd quarter including the following: Math: In the Chef's Kitchen with Long Division; Science: Mixtures & Solutions; Social Studies: The Cultures of South and Central America Sixth Grade Big Ideas, Big Impact & Journeys of Transformation! 305 & 309 - Big Ideas, Big Impact: Instagram Stories of famous African-Americans that highlight their big idea and the events in their life that led to that "Big Idea" 304 - Journeys of Transformation: Personal Totem Poles that display animals and stories that represent our own journeys of transformation Seventh Grade 6 Word Memoirs! Seventh Graders have created 6 word memoirs that capture the essence of a special moment in their life! Come check out the videos! Eighth Grade National Geographic Geo Challenge 8th Grade Scientists have been tackling The Problem of Plastic! Come see their presentations focused on plastic problems in waterways globally! On Monday, February 3, our Preschool through 3rd Graders received a visit from Benny The Bull, The Luv-a-bulls, The Incred-a-bulls, and the Chicago Fire Department as they held "Fire Safety Day" here at Bateman. The Bulls and First Alert taught students about fire safety through interactive activities all throughout the school! Our students are now extra prepared for a fire emergency thanks to the team at First Alert!
