Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We can't believe we are already halfway through February!  Throughout the past couple of years, Bateman teachers and community members have been striving to celebrate the diversity of our school year round.  Teachers have been learning about the Banks' approach to Social Action & Multicultural Curriculum Reform, which integrates cultural lenses throughout each aspect of the unit of study.  Instead of isolating individual cultures month to month, we pride ourselves on cultivating a school community in which culture is highlighted every day.

Our sixth graders recently completed a unit entitled Big Ideas, Big Impact.  As their final product, students created "Instagram Stories" about famous African Americans in US History. Through this project, students were able to demonstrate their understanding of both central idea and important figures in the African American community.  Come check them out in the North Foyer!

Our Kindergarteners have been learning various greetings during their morning meetings to broaden their lens on language.  Our Second & Third Graders have been reading influential authors that provide our young readers with more mirrors, books that reflect our students' identities and cultures.

We are excited to continue to highlight the many ways in which culture is integrated throughout our daily learning at Bateman for the remainder of February and beyond!  Please help us congratulate our teachers and students for creating a safe environment that embraces the ability to be fully inclusive.

Be Empowered • Be Inclusive • Be Kind

Be Bateman!

All the best,
Georgia & Kate
