There will be a new online application process for preschool. The City of Chicago in collaboration with the Office of Early Childhood Education (OECE) and Department of Family Support Services are working together to create a web based universal application system for School Year 2016-17. Please contact the school office for upcoming details. Parents, if you are looking for stuff to do with kiddies on the CTU Day of Action, Friday, April 1st, we've set up a few great options, including two workshops at Open Books: Mission Propelle leading yoga, crafts, literacy and leadership with State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, and best-selling children's author Lindsay Currie teaching writing. You can sign up at www.dabblekids.com/adventures. On Thursday, March 31st, Loyola University’s Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority will be hosting “Reading is Fundamental” event at Bateman from 5-7 pm.
Reading is Fundamental, also known as RIF, is Kappa Kappa Gamma’s national philanthropy, designed to help promote literacy and to making reading fun. Their chapter will host this event at Bateman and among other fun activities, 300 books will be donated to our students. Join Us! The kindergarten teachers and families celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by talking all about literacy! Families came to Bateman and worked with kindergarten teachers on ways to develop reading and writing skills at home with their children such as practicing decoding strategies, learning print concepts, retelling stories, and writing books. Thank you to all the families who attended as well as the PTA members and volunteers who helped make the event such a great success!
On Saturday, March 19, the Bateman Chess team had its most successful performance to date at the CPS Championships. We fielded three teams and each of them earned the first place trophy. In the 3rd/4th grade section, Zubair Ahmed and Andrey Novikov finished in the top 5; in the 5th/6th grade section, Layla Rodriguez and Jim Nguyen were top 5 finishers; and in the 7th/8th grade group, 3 players were in the top 5: Ernest Rionaula, Umair Ahmed, and finishing first place overall, Esteban Taboada! It was a remarkable day, with victories over several gifted magnet schools and academic center programs. All players were in top form, and the parents were as supportive as ever, providing snacks and encouragement. We did it! CPS Champions in all three sections where Bateman had a team: grades 3/4, 5/6, & 7/8. Congratulations Chess Team! More information will be shared very soon!
Today, Bateman welcomed more than 200 guests at the Town Hall Meeting and Dinner! Our School Principal, Ms. Davos-Vetas discussed important topics and answered questions regarding graduation. 8th grade students were accompanied by parents and guardians. Thank you! Save the Date!
