Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

June is just around the corner! We can hardly believe the final month of school is nearly here. We have been busy trying to plan in anticipation for next year. School Supply Lists will be shared in early June so you are able to prepare, as well.

Included here are a few notes as we continue this journey together:

  • Our Spring Virtual Book Fair is going live this Friday, May 28th! This is a great opportunity to purchase some high interest reading titles to keep your child engaged in books all summer long! Check out Scholastic Book Fair’s online store https://www.scholastic.com/bf/bateman and their exciting virtual 360 book fair (shop directly from the cases like an in-person fair). To get a head start, you can set up an eWallet account. More information can be found here: eWallet Infomercial

  • As we look to next year, please help us plan appropriately! If your family will be leaving the Bateman Community, please complete the Anticipated Transfer Request Form and email it to Ms. Rivera in the North Office as soon as possible.

  • Our 2021-22 School Year will officially begin for students on Monday, August 30, 2021. Registration has started, as has our planning for next year. We would like to thank all of the new incoming kindergarten families that have already completed the registration process. We currently have nearly 50% of our kindergarten spots filled for the 2021-22 school year. Throughout the summer, we will remain open on Wednesday’s from 9-12 to complete registrations but encourage all families to register as soon as possible to help us plan accordingly.  Please call 773-534-5055 or email Evelyn Rivera elrivera6@cps.edu in the north office if you have any questions.

We continue to be incredibly proud of our teachers’ commitment, our students’ engagement, and our parents’ partnership throughout this year. We’re looking forward to ending this year strong with all of you and are already excited about all that next year will bring.

Our best,
Georgia & Kate
Reopening Updates
We will continue to update our community with information and FAQs.
Newly added items will be included in this section of the Buzz.

What steps would I take if I want to switch the learning model for my child?
The window for Quarter 4 In-Person Learning has closed. Thank you for all who have submitted the survey. Those who have submitted "Hybrid Learning" for Quarter 4 have the ability to change to "Learn at Home"; however, all families who have indicated Learn At Home will remain with Remote Learning for the remainder of this school year.

How do I access the Social Compact agreement for families who are returning?
All parents and students should sign and return (either electronically or printed version) of the Bateman Social Compact [Parent Compact English & Spanish | Student Compact English & Spanish]

How do I know when and where to go for arrival and dismissal?
As our numbers have increased for Quarter 4, it is imperative that all families follow the arrival and dismissal procedures. Please make sure that you are at the correct door at the correct time!

What steps are necessary to receive the Health Screener text or email?
Parents and guardians of In-Person learners are required to complete a daily health screener for each child attending school. CPS sends a text message or email to the primary contact for each child around 6:00 am. The screener must be completed the morning of attendance no later than 7:30am. To verify that parents or guardians receive the daily reminder, ensure that you have "opted in" to receive district notifications in the North Office by phone at 773-534-5055 or email Ms. Rivera. If you have been receiving the emails to parents with updates regarding reopening, you're all set!

COVID Case Procedures
If a staff member or student tests positive for COVID the first important step to take is to report the case to the
COVID-19 self-reporting tool. The Office of Student Health & Wellness will then determine who was exposed (close contact for more than 15 mins) and who needs to quarantine. If a staff member tests positive as part of the CPS on-site COVID-19 testing then the pods exposed will be required to quarantine and launch in to remote learning.

Click below for tools to guide you through the process, should the need arise:

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Friends and Families,

Appreciate ap·pre·ci·ate
/əˈprēSHēˌāt/  to fully recognize someone or something's worth

Our educators definitely felt the outpouring of appreciation last week - from the many letters and notes of thanks, to our sponsors who provided delicious meals, to the incredibly generous gift cards, to our parent volunteers making sure each child could present a flower to their teacher. Thank you for creating a memorable week full of surprises and pick me ups to a staff that has proven their worth time and time again! We appreciate each of you for recognizing the passion, energy, time, patience, and dedication our staff has demonstrated this year.

We also appreciate some very special people within our village - our Bateman mothers. Whether you identify as a biological, foster, spiritual, single, step, adoptive or any other mother-figure, we hope all in the Bateman Family had a wonderful day of celebration. Our community would not be the same without each of you playing an integral role in our children's lives. We continue to honor and celebrate you day in and day out!

Our best,
Georgia & Kate

Important COVID-19 Update:
It is imperative that all families take notifying Chicago Public Schools of positive cases very seriously. Please report any positive COVID-19 test results as soon as possible to the Office of Student Health & Wellness. We are here to support you with any questions and are happy to walk you through the process. We must continue to work together to ensure the safety of our entire community with early reporting and open communication. Thank you in advance for your assistance and partnership!

Saturday, May 08, 2021

Dear BATEMAN Community,

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is committed to keeping families and staff informed of the most current developments regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). A person who was in our school building on April 26, 2021 tested positive for COVID-19. We are sending this notification for your awareness, and you do not need to take any further action at this time. If you have been identified as a close contact, you should have received a separate notification from the Office of Student Health and Wellness with quarantine instructions.

The affected pod will be asked to stay at home and switch to online learning until further notice. All other activities can continue.

As a reminder, we can slow the spread of COVID-19 as a school community by social distancing whenever possible, wearing masks in public, washing our hands thoroughly, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

If you have any questions about COVID-19, please review our FAQ here. For district updates and resources, visit cps.edu/reopening2020. If you need help locating medical care or have any CPS-specific questions, please reach out to the CPS Command Center at familyservices@cps.edu or 773-553-KIDS (5437), which is staffed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I am here to support you as we move forward together as one healthy, supportive, and engaged school family.

Sincerely,

BATEMAN Administration

Atentamente,

Administración de la escuela BATEMAN

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Friends and Families,

Despite the many changes, obstacles, and inconsistencies throughout this past year, one thing has remained constant for our children and families: our teachers and the support system all children have amongst this incredible staff. This week is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week and is a special opportunity to highlight the seemingly never-ending job of being an educator.

Our educator teams have endured countless hours of planning and re-designing how they teach. They have made house visits to so all students have tools and supplies they need to be successful. They have creatively adapted ways to connect and build community all while ensuring our students continue to grow academically.

To say that each of our teachers and staff members have gone above and beyond would be doing a disservice to the amount of heart and effort they pour into every day.

Please help us in making every single one of our educators - and yes - they are all educators! - feel extra special this week. Each day, we have planned a unique way that our whole community can share their appreciation for these inspiring people. Please click here for all details on how to participate fully in the celebration to #ThankATeacher!

Our best,
Georgia & Kate
Reopening Updates
We will continue to update our community with information and FAQs.
Newly added items will be included in this section of the Buzz.

What if I missed the Hybrid Family Meeting on Wednesday, April 7th?
We completely understand that many families have varying schedules. In order to accommodate all who are planning to return, we have included the presentation and video below. Please make sure to view both for all in person information.

  • Quarantining process if a staff member tests positive.
