Congratulations on a Wonderful Week 1!
BATEMAN WEBSITE   |  TRADUCIR ESTA PAGINA  |   TEACHER WEBSITES   |  CONTACT US

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

It has been quite an exciting week here at Bateman! After such a smooth week, even with extreme temperatures, we can't help but pause to think about the immense gratitude we have for educators, students, and community members.

As a few of our educators had big life events that took them beyond Bateman at the end of last year and with the expansion of our Dual Language program, we have the honor of welcoming a few new additions to the Bateman Family:

  • Ms. Melanie Ruiz - 5th Grade ELA [Monolingual/Dual]
  • Ms. Alejandra Neri - 5th Grade Social Science [Monolingual/ Dual]
  • Ms. Marley Kleiman - 3rd Grade [Dual Language]
  • Ms. Kathleen Maxey - Kindergarten [Monolingual]
  • Ms. Leticia Cobarrubias - World Language
Additionally, in order to support the diverse needs of our school, we were granted a handful of new positions to provide specialized services to our students!
  • Ms. Malina Sanchez - Teacher of Diverse Learners
  • Ms. Nadea Ross - Teacher of Diverse Learners
  • Ms. Maria Hernandez - Special Education Classroom Assistant
  • Ms. Crystal Lopez - Special Education Classroom Assistant
We are proud to embark on our 8th year as a team leading alongside an incredible staff here at Bateman. We strive to create a school culture that highlights each student for their unique strengths, celebrates mistakes and failures, and allows for kids to find joy each day of their education. As a community, we are all here for one reason alone - our children - and we know that this year will be the best yet!

We want to hear how your week went! Please let us know here so we can continue to support our community!

Warm regards,

Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

  • Drop off children within the lane and wait for a volunteer to open the car door.

    • Always follow the guidance of our volunteers that are there to assist with the facilitation of a smooth traffic flow.

    • For your child’s safety, students should ONLY exit on the passenger side of the car. Our staff is available to assist you. Parent’s should remain in the driver’s seat.

Bateman Heat Advisory Response
BATEMAN WEBSITE   |  TRADUCIR ESTA PAGINA  |   TEACHER WEBSITES   |  CONTACT US

Good afternoon Bateman Families and Friends,

Happy Day 2! We were once again blown away by our students - they have transitioned seamlessly and have already shown great promise for the school year.

You should have received several notifications from Chicago Public Schools regarding the extreme heat advisory for Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th. The district sent this correspondence earlier today with guidance provided to each school. In an effort to remain transparent with our community, please see the action steps we are taking and how you can help ensure all students remain comfortable and safe throughout the school day.

In devising this plan, we have aimed to prioritize opportunities for students to leave their classrooms for a change of scenery and movement as much as possible. We have advised our staff on several action steps and have selected the coolest areas of the building to utilize when larger groups of students are combined. Finally, we met with Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club this afternoon. Programming will continue as scheduled with similar precautionary guidelines.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Please send a full water bottle with your child(ren).

  • Discuss the importance of maintaining a calm body throughout the school day.

  • Encourage your child to advocate for themselves if they do not feel well.

  • If your child has chronic nosebleeds, please consider sending an additional outfit with them in the event it occurs.

Classrooms

  • Air Conditioners will be turned on no later than 7am.

  • All shades will be drawn down in classrooms and low lighting will be utilized.

  • Staff will provide frequent breaks throughout the day and will take their classes on walks in the hallways (cool temperature area)

  • Staff will encourage students to stay hydrated.

  • Our Engineer and leadership team will be spot checking frequently throughout the day.

  • Lunch will continue to be provided in the cafeteria (cool temperature area).

  • Essentials Classes will continue in their classrooms with the exception of P.E.

  • The Library and other open spaces will be utilized as emergency spaces  in addition to the hallways should a classroom become too warm.

Gross Motor Breaks & Physical Education Locations

Mr. Nowak & Mr. Valencia are utilizing this time to review safe play, establish norms, and meet their new classes!

PK: All Gross motor activities will take place in the auditorium and cafeteria.

PK-3rd PE: Classrooms and/or hallways

4th-8th PE: Room 303

Indoor Recess

Kinder - 4th Grades & 6th Grade
Location: Auditorium

  • The Recess Team will provide students the option to participate in low-stress movement activities, such as Yoga and other NetFlex options (courtesy of Mr. Valencia).

  • Coloring / Drawing

  • Board Games

5th, 7th, & 8th Grade Recess

Location: Homerooms

  • The Recess Team will initiate games with students to engage in community building and brain breaks.

  • Students will have the option to participate in low-stress movement activities, such as Yoga and other NetFlex options (courtesy of Mr. Valencia).

  • Coloring / Drawing

  • Board Games

If your family or neighbors need assistance with beating the heat please click this link provided by the city of Chicago, City of Chicago Cooling Areas.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we prepare for this heat wave!

Warmly,

Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

Happy First Day!
BATEMAN WEBSITE   |  TRADUCIR ESTA PAGINA  |   TEACHER WEBSITES   |  CONTACT US

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We officially welcomed over 900 students this morning for the start of the 2023-2024 school year! We cannot thank you enough for helping make today such a smooth and successful first day of school. Our theme of GROWing Together includes every single member of our community to ensure our children receive the best - from our educators, to our parents, and all who come together to support our kids. We are looking forward to making this school year our strongest yet!

Students spent today engaging in get to know me tasks, building community in their new classrooms, learning routines, and having fun! We were so impressed with how many remembered the Blaze Ways right from the first day of school.

Please remember that all parents will need to wait outside tomorrow morning during arrival. Our students did a remarkable job coming right in today and were ready to learn! We know they will be ready to do the same moving forward.

We want to hear how your day went! Please let us know here. Check out the dismissal times and locations below so you know where to meet your child to hear all about their day!

Looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!

Warmly,
Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

Welcome Back, Bateman!
BATEMAN WEBSITE   |  TRADUCIR ESTA PAGINA  |   TEACHER WEBSITES   |  CONTACT US

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

Welcome back, Bateman!  As we embark on the new academic year, we are filled with a profound sense of pride and excitement for the extraordinary journey that awaits us.  Our exceptional staff have worked tirelessly all summer to enhance our curriculum and develop innovative teaching methodologies to enrich your child's learning experience.

At Bateman, our values of kindness, empowerment, and inclusivity form the foundation of our educational approach. We are dedicated to providing a challenging and nurturing learning environment where every student feels valued and heard and is encouraged to explore their interests and passions. As we embrace the opportunities this school year brings, we will continue to foster academic excellence, personal growth, and a strong sense of responsibility in our students.

As we come together again, we are excited to announce this year's focus on "GROWing Together." At Bateman, we believe in the potential of every student, educator, and community member. This year, we will focus on staying Goal-Oriented, committed to a Responsive approach, providing Opportunities, and inspiring Will in order to strengthen our culture of growth.

By embracing the principles of Growing Together, we will create a learning environment that nurtures the potential of each student. Our theme emphasizes the importance of growth for all while sustaining a responsive approach for varying students needs and abilities. By engaging in providing well rounded opportunities and inspiring an inner will, we will continue to learn from one another, broaden our perspectives, and build stronger connections of support within our school, community and nation.

As we commence the new academic year, we have reflected on the voices of many stakeholders and worked tirelessly over the summer to respond to their needs, ideas and questions.  Please review and bookmark links below for the 2023-2024 school year.

Warm regards,

Ms. Davos and Ms. Kloepper
