Monday, January 31

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

On Friday, we had the privilege of gathering with our educators to celebrate the year thus far, collaborate around differentiated small groups and plan for best practices in individualized behavioral supports. Our educators are prepared and excited for the upcoming quarter!

In the upcoming weeks, students will participate in middle of the year assessments. These assessments are quick snapshots that will provide further insight to guide instructional decisions for the second semester. Please know that these pieces of data are formative and are just a fraction of information our educators utilize to best inform their learning targets. The academic growth we have witnessed thus far is encouraging and leaves us excited for the many possibilities of minimizing any gaps left from unfinished learning.  Your child’s teacher has most likely already shared with you the date of assessment. We invite you to talk to them about entering their assessment with confidence and reassure them that these are opportunities to show what they know!

The district has recently announced that beginning tomorrow, February 1st, the shift from a 10-day to a 5-day quarantine will take effect. Please read this letter and FAQ from CEO Martinez that explains that change. Students who were already isolating or quarantining as of this date will complete their original 10-day isolation or quarantine period. Students and staff who are directed to isolate or quarantine on or after Tuesday, February 1, 2022 will only need to do so for five days. Please click here for more information and scenarios to further explain. The district has also provided an updated flowchart for families reflective of the changes.

Here’s what the change to a 5-day quarantine/isolation period will mean for your family:

  • Children who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status, will need to isolate and learn at home for five days rather than 10. If the child still has symptoms after Day 5, they should continue to isolate at home for the full 10 day period. If the child no longer has symptoms after Day 5, the child will be free to return to school on Day 6 with the following precautions in place:

    • From Days 6 - 10, students will keep their masks on at all times, including while outdoors, except when eating or drinking.

    • When masks must be removed for eating and drinking, these students will maintain six feet of social distance from others wherever possible.

  • Children who are not yet vaccinated or are not up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, and who have been identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will need to quarantine and learn at home for 5 days rather than 10.
  • Children who are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, and who have been identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not have to quarantine at all.
.
.

As we learn more, we remain committed to being fully transparent with our community. Let's continue to #BeBateman!

Warm regards,
Ms. Davos and Ms. Kloepper

Tuesday, January 18th

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

It is difficult to believe we are nearing the end of the second quarter. We witnessed our students, educators and parents continue true partnership even when many throughout last week were in different learning locations. We saw students quickly engaging in authentic tasks and educators gracefully balancing students within the classroom and learning remotely, which is no easy feat.

We are grateful for the agreement that was reached with CPS & CTU which honors the shared commitment to our students, families, and staff.  We would like to thank all of our families for their extraordinary patience they’ve shown through these unprecedented challenges. Full details of the agreement can be found here, but listed below are the details that will impact families most:

Masks

  • CPS will provide KN95 masks to all students and staff who want them. As a reminder, masks only work if they are worn properly over the nose and mouth, so the best mask for your child is one that they can wear comfortably throughout the day.

Daily Health Screener

  • Each school’s Safety Committee can decide whether or not to bring back the daily health screener. You will receive more information on this directly from your child’s school.

Remote Learning

  • There are now set metrics in place to determine when COVID-19 cases/quarantines may send an entire school into remote learning. If a school meets these thresholds, the school’s Safety Committee will make the decision on whether or not to transition the entire school to remote learning. Remote learning will last for five days unless the school is directed otherwise by the Chicago Department of Public Health.

COVID-19 Testing

  • Our existing program for COVID-19 testing, which provides students and staff at every school with free testing every week, will continue. Please visitcolor.com/readycheckgo-cps to register your student for weekly testing.

  • CPS will test a minimum of 10% of students at each school every week.

  • In schools with a high rate of positive Covid cases, additional testing will be provided to students and staff who do not have symptoms.

  • Students who have symptoms of COVID-19 can receive a free test at school with the consent of their parents or guardian.

  • If an entire school transitions to remote learning, staff and students without symptoms will be offered COVID-19 tests at school within five days

Currently, we have just over 35% of our student body with a record of being fully vaccinated in our system. This past week, all fully vaccinated students who were in a classroom in quarantine were able to come to school! If you have not submitted your child’s vaccination card, please either bring it to the main office or email a photo of it to adorosz@cps.edu and mcastro49@cps.edu.

We are excited to provide a vaccination clinic at Bateman on February 10th and March 3rd. Details are included below. For other locations, visit:
  • Four (4) Regional CPS Clinics that offer weekly appointments:

Quarantine Protocol Update

CPS shortened the quarantine timeline for students and staff impacted by COVID-19 from 14 to 10 days. Read the full message from CEO Pedro Martinez here. At this point in time, the Quarantine remains 10 days. CPS will notify families if it is updated to 5 days.

Bateman Fathers' Club

Pints With Purpose is Back!
Bateman Elementary School FUNdraiser Hosted by Bateman Fathers' Club

What’s better than an ice-cold delicious beer?
How about an ice-cold delicious beer that raises money for our school!

Together with our good friends at Twisted Hippo, Bateman Fathers’ Club (BFC) is excited to announce its Spring FUNdraising event – Pints with Purpose (PwP).

First launched in 2019, the inaugural PwP raised more than $1,500 used to directly benefit the Bateman student body.  This year we look to build on our success, with a couple frothy new additions.

Check it out:

  • The PwP Bateman Brew will be available in 4-packs! While $1 from each PwP sold onsite at Twisted Hippo is donated to Bateman, BFC will now also receive $3 from each 4-pack of PwP cans purchased.
  • But what’s its name? You tell us! This year’s Bateman Brew is a Red Ale featuring Centennial hops to celebrate Bateman’s 100th Anniversary. Get your ideas on tap and use this link to join the auction for 2022 naming rights.  Bidding starts today and runs through January 27.
  • Can I help make the beer? Yes!…for a donation that will benefit ALL students at Bateman. Brewmaster Karl and the Twisted Hippo Beer team have graciously agreed to allow one lucky winner and a guest to hang out and help out February 2, 2022 when the PwP hits the barrels. Use this link to access the auction page and place your bid for this one-of-a-kind experience! Bidding starts today and runs through January 27.
  • Is there going to be a launch party? We sure hope so.  Release date is scheduled for March 10th and we’d love to see the community out and about to support the BFC, Twisted Hippo and the Bateman students. That said, we’re getting pretty good at staying flexible, so look for additional communication and details about the launch party.
  • Where can I get more information? As always, hit us up at batemanfathersclub@gmail.com

Tuesday, January 11th

Good afternoon Bateman Families & Friends,

Today, we were able to welcome back all of our wonderful educators! We look forward to welcoming the heart and soul of our learning community tomorrow…our students. Whether you will be joining in learning virtually or in person, we are so excited to see you!

Please be reminded that all students attending in-person learning should be symptom free. Please access the CPS Self Screener for symptom reference and keep your child home if they are not feeling well. All students showing symptoms will be brought to see our Care Room attendant. We appreciate your honesty and assistance in keeping our community safe.

This morning, all homerooms that are currently in quarantine should have received a follow up communication with information of children returning to school tomorrow. If you have questions regarding your child returning to school tomorrow, please refer to the email you received.

As classes resume, so will many of our regular programs. Please see below for updates:

  • Before Care will resume tomorrow per usual.

  • Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club will resume per usual.

  • FORGE After School Programs will resume on Tuesday, January 18th.

Educators have been communicating with families throughout the day informing of remote schedules for those that are in need. For all students who are returning for in-person learning tomorrow, doors open at 8:05am and classes will begin at 8:15am!

See you tomorrow and #BeBateman!

Warm Regards,

Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

Sra. Davos y Sra. Kloepper

Sunday, January 9, 2022

Dear Bateman Parents and Families,

We hope you have had an enjoyable weekend! As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, January 10th. Packets for printing are available below this message.

The district was recently made aware that multiple students and staff members who were present in Bateman on Tuesday, January 4th had tested positive for COVID-19. We have been working diligently throughout the weekend to ensure that staff and parents of all impacted students have been notified. We are sending this letter for your awareness, and you do not need to take any action at this time.

The best way to keep you and your child safe from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe, effective, and available to everyone ages five and up. In addition, vaccinated students who are exposed to COVID-19 can avoid quarantine and stay in the classroom as long as they remain without symptoms.

  • To inform the school regarding your child’s vaccination status, please email a copy of your child’s vaccination card to adorosz@cps.edu and mcastro49@cps.edu.

  • To find a vaccine appointment, searchhttp://vaccines.gov, text your ZIP code to 438829, call 1-800-232-0233, or visitcps.edu/vaccinations.

  • CPS also strongly encourages families to sign their child up for weekly COVID-19 testing at school by visitingcolor.com/readycheckgo-cps. If you need help locating medical care or have any CPS-specific questions, please visitcps.edu or reach out to  the Healthy CPS Hotline at 773-553-KIDS (5437), which is staffed 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Thank you for your support and patience as we navigate through all of these cases.  The health and wellness of our school community is and will always be our priority.  Please stay healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Georgia Davos and Kate Kloepper

Atentamente,

Georgia Davos y Kate Kloepper

Friday, January 7, 2022

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

Happy Friday to all. We were happy to provide in-person opt-in activities for students today and were again joined by over 50 friends on our Virtual Connection Sessions! We are eager to be able to welcome all of our students back to school for instruction as soon as possible.

Based on the expected staffing levels at our school on Monday, January 10th regular classes will be canceled for our students.

We know you see that each school has unique circumstances and resources and that this situation is evolving. We will be analyzing our situation day by day to best support our students. Should we get to a place where we are able to safely provide learning opportunities to all students, we will share our plan to do so in a timely manner. As of right now, we are only able to plan for Monday. We will be offering two options:

  1. Packets are available by grade level to print at home.  Please see the links in the section below this message.

  2. Students who do not have access to a printer are able to pick up packets at Door #4 for Asynchronous work between 8:30am - 3:00pm.

As was offered for today, families who are in absolute need of support will be able to complete the form below to register their child(ren) for either Session A (8:30 am - 11:00 am) or Session B (12:00 - 2:30pm). We will be able to plan activities safely in an assigned group with our support staff including games, art, and others. Please note that no formal instruction will be provided.
  1. Students will remain with their group the entire time. Please note that students will not be with their current pods/homerooms based on responses.

  2. Siblings will be placed in the same sessions.

  3. Students will rotate to various activities.

  4. Breakfast or Lunch will be provided to students.

  5. Families are opting into this opportunity. In no way will this impact student attendance or grades and this does not count as a student day of instruction.

  6. Students must arrive and be picked up on time at Door 1 to support transitions and the limited staff on site.

  7. Only students who are asymptomatic should be sent to school.

**PARENT ACTION**: If you are in absolute need of this support option for either the morning or afternoon, please complete this survey by 9pm TONIGHT to be assigned to a group. Your prompt response is vital in order to support planning and preparation. All parents who complete the form will receive a confirmation email by 4pm on Sunday at the latest.

As a reminder, there are many resources that all families can take advantage of while our school is closed:

  • Take-home breakfasts and lunches will continue to be available at our school from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for all students.

  • TheSafe Haven Sites listed here are available for childcare. Sites will be open from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Registration is available on site and a parent or guardian must be present with the child at the time of registration.

  • Community-based organizations throughout the city are offering daytime programs for students.  A list of programs can be found here. This list will be updated as new programs are identified. For more information about programs and how to register, please reach out to the contact or visit the website listed.

  • Chicago Park District field houses will be open during normal operating hours. These facilities will be available to CPS students ages six and older. All Chicago Park District programs will take place as scheduled. For more information on park locations and hours of operation, visitchicagoparkdistrict.com.

  • Chicago Public Library locations are open during normal hours (children must be accompanied by an adult and can’t be left at the library unattended). Libraries will have grab-and-go kits with activities for children to do in the library or to take home.

We are extremely grateful for your continued patience and support during this challenging situation. You can expect to receive a message by 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 10th regarding our school’s plan for Tuesday, January 11th, and Wednesday, January 12th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school directly.

Warm regards,

Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

- 2:30pm).

Atentamente,

Sra. Davos y Sra. Kloepper
