Attendance Updates

What is the process to notify the school of an absence?
Please notify the school daily for any anticipated absence. The process is a two step process:
  1. Email your child's teacher(s), including CCing all co-teachers and the essentials teacher for the week so that teachers know who to anticipate in class that day.
  2.  Complete an Absence Form on the Bateman Website to indicate the reason for the absence. This will assist in processing an excused or unexcused absence for your child.

Homework Updates

Will my child be receiving homework during Remote Learning?
As a school, we recognize the amount of energy that Remote Learning requires. We have come to the decision that no additional assignments will be made at this time for homework. Assignments should be completed during the synchronous and asynchronous times during the day; however, if a child does not complete the assignment during instructional time, the teacher may ask for it to be completed after school hours.

Supporting Our Families
Ongoing

The pandemic has impacted families on multiple levels. As one school community, we are encouraged by the amount of families that have reached out to support one another. Since we cannot see one another on a daily basis at drop offs and pick ups, it is important for open communication, especially when families are in need of support. Please indicate whether your family is in need of support or if you are a family who can provide support. Further information and next steps will be forthcoming once we receive sufficient responses from families.

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

Thank you for your overwhelmingly positive feedback from the parent survey. We are grateful for your insights and appreciate your honest recommendations as we remain committed to continuous improvement. It is evident that we are all here to support our students to succeed. There will be many opportunities for further feedback from parents and in the upcoming weeks, our teachers will be administering a school wide student survey to ensure our student voices and feedback are elevated.

We've witnessed strong classroom communities established, as well as true partnerships being formed between students, parents, and teachers. This week, you will notice an even greater initiative for small group instruction. Many teachers will be gathering data on an individual basis that will be utilized to further inform instruction. We encourage you to refrain from assisting your child during small group time. It is sometimes difficult to hold back or see your child struggling -  as parents ourselves, we completely understand - but it is often these times that provide a true sense and direction for the teacher!

We congratulate each of your efforts to ensure your child is fully present during learning time with minimal distractions. As a friendly reminder, the expectation for daily attendance is that students are present during synchronous time with video cameras on. Further attendance updates are included below.

Thank you for all you continue to do to #BeBatemanSTRONG!

Warmly,

Georgia and Kate

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

We did it! We successfully began the school year in partnership with each of you! By the end of the week, we are proud to say that we reached 98% attendance! We are incredibly grateful for the amount of positive feedback we have received from the community and our educators are feeling your support. We know this is a lot to navigate and that hiccups are bound to happen; however, with your trust, communication, and enthusiasm we will only continue to foster a sound support system for each of our children.

As we adapt to our new schedules and learning opportunities, your feedback will be instrumental in ensuring growth for all students. We ask that you provide constructive feedback on how we have adopted CPS' vision for Remote Learning. Please provide Week 1 Remote Learning Feedback by Friday, September 18th.

This week, you'll notice that teachers will begin practicing moving into small groups with students to begin individualized instruction. Educators will be using this week to assist students in transitioning from one Google Meet to another while gathering data to inform their instruction.

Finally, in order to streamline keeping track of who is absent each day, we have made a slight adjustment to our Attendance Policy and Procedure. Throughout Remote Learning, if your child is absent, please complete the Electronic Absence Form by 8:15 am in addition to emailing your child's teacher. Thank you!

We will #BeBatemanSTRONG!

Warmly,

Georgia and Kate

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

    Dear Bateman Parents,

iBienvenidos! Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year! While this September is unlike any other, we know the year ahead will bring familiar feelings of joy, community, and growth.

We know that this entire endeavor would not be possible without the strong partnership between teachers, parents, and students. Even after the countless hours of preparation for Tuesday, we know there will be hiccups. We ask the same of you that we do of our students when they might get frustrated: stop and take a deep breath. You are doing your best. Our educators are doing their best. And we all want the best for our children.  In a typical year, our educators have this week planned out by the minute (with a Plan B!) and even with the same level of planning, if not more, the week ahead brings many unknowns. This week, ask that we all practice an extra dose of patience, communication, and grace.

We continue to ask ourselves; "What have we forgotten? Where can we provide more support?" and we look forward to hearing your feedback to continuously improve. With that said, below you will find important information that will set your children up for success before the first day of virtual classes on Tuesday, September 8th at 8:15 am. We hope that this information helps you and your children start the year off remotely with success. Please feel free to email us at
bateman.cps.edu,  if you have any questions or need more information.

    We will #BeBatemanSTRONG!

    Warmly,

    Georgia and Kate

    We are Ready for Tuesday!

What if I was unable to attend supply pick up for my child's materials?
Please come to Door 4 during school hours this week to collect your chid's materials! We want to make sure all students have what they need!

I still need a chromebook for my child. What should I do?
Please complete the Technology Request Form to schedule an appointment. We must keep track of our devices and give them out in order of receiving the request. Mr. Colon will follow up to schedule a pick up time.

What if I do not see the correct Google Classroom?
The district is updated Google Classrooms every night to ensure accurate classrooms for students. Please communicate with your teacher if there are any discrepancies with the classroom! Please keep in mind that these are centrally owned and we will do everything we can on our end to make sure accuracy in the classrooms! In the event your child is not on the Google Classroom by Tuesday morning, your teacher will share the class code to join in the synchronous meeting in Google Meets!

What if my child forgot his/her password?
If you need assistance logging in, please see the QR Code Video explanation (PK-2) or Log In Slides.
    • If have never logged in, please read the Setting Up Your CPS Account Directions.
    • If the password if forgotten, please use the Changing/Resetting Password Steps.

    Message from Administration

    Dear Bateman Family,

Today we officially welcomed back our staff to the beginning of the new school year! While we could not greet them with our annual BBQ, it was wonderful to hear planning occurring in socially distanced hallway meetings, see supply bags receiving their final touches, and witness virtual teaching space creations! We know many have already been in contact with their new homerooms and all are eager to collaborate with each of you!

Over the past few weeks, we have put all our efforts into preparing for a successful school year. Through everything, we are so thankful for our Bateman Family! The continued collaborative efforts inspire us as we begin a very unconventional school year.

Our top priority continues to be supporting all students and their families. Thank you to each of the participants in Friday's Local School Council Meeting, where we explained in great detail regarding the plan for this year. Please take a moment to watch this video  or review the presentation slides created by the Bateman Leadership Team that further explains the Remote Learning Expectations provided by the district. It is important to note that we have adapted the guidance to fit the needs of our Bateman community. The video includes information regarding:

    • The 7 Remote Learning Expectations

    • Remote Learning Policies

    • Curriculum and Instruction, including the framework grade band schedule

    • Diverse Learner Support

    • English Learner Support

    • Social- Emotional Support

If you still have lingering questions regarding our remote start to the school year after watching the video and reviewing the Bateman FAQ for Remote Learning, please feel free to contact us at bateman@cps.edu. Please note that we are continuously adding new sections to the Bateman FAQ for Remote Learning to keep information as pertinent as possible. Please continue to check back on this document, which will be centralized within the Remote Learning section of our website. Additionally, teachers will be emailing student versions of schedules to parents  on Wednesday afternoon.

We have several exciting upcoming events. For more information about these events, please ensure you are subscribed to the Bateman Buzz!

    • Kindergarten Virtual Orientation: Tuesday, September 1st @ 10am

    • PreK Virtual Orientations: Wednesday, September 2nd @ 10am

    • First Day of School!: Tuesday, September 8th @ 8:15am

We are looking forward to a wonderful 2020 school year!
