This great organization needs your support and
will become inactive if a troop leader is not found.

Lunch Stop 2018 at Bateman!

Did you know that Bateman is a Lunch Stop site again this summer? We hope to see you all at the Bateman Playground by the Community Garden (Sacramento side). Children 18 or younger get free and healthy meals this summer at Chicago Public Schools LunchStop sites from June 25th to August 24th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday-Friday. An Important Message from Bateman | Last Day Reminders

An Important Message From Bateman

Dear Bateman Families,

It’s hard to believe that the end of the school year is here! Time flies when you are having fun! The end of the year always brings a sense of tremendous accomplishment. Our students and staff have achieved and learned lot over the last 10 months. To our graduates…CONGRATULATIONS!! The Bateman staff wishes you all the best as you move on to high school.

We have some exciting news and would like to congratulate the entire Bateman community on our recent designation from CPS Supportive Schools - we were awarded Exemplary Status! This is the highest level of Social & Emotional supports offered to all students at Bateman and will be added to our school report card. Congratulations! Also, we recently received results from the My School, My Voice survey and we are once again Well Organized! Thank you to all students, staff, and parents who participated in both opportunities for our school. Finally, please be informed that our playground will be closed starting June 25th due to school construction. We apologize for the inconvenience but look forward to all of our school upgrades!

We are already planning for the 18/19 school year. Part of the planning includes class placement for each student. Each grade level team plays an integral role in placing students in the best educational setting for each child. We examine academic performance, social skills, class composition, and special services. Homerooms will be mailed this summer and supply lists will be distributed on the last day of school with your child’s report card. Please make sure to check backpacks for important information coming home. As always, you can also find school information on our website, Facebook, and Twitter for reminders of important dates and back to school events.

Some reminders for tomorrow:

Stop by the LOST & FOUND! All unclaimed items will be donated.
Return library and classroom books.
Encourage your child to say thank you to his/her teacher!

We wish everyone a very safe and happy summer! We will miss you all and look forward to seeing everyone back in September!

We want to congratulate our 2018 Bateman Graduates for a wonderful year! We are proud of all our students and wish them all the best as they move on to the next chapter of their lives. We also thank all the parents and families that were able to attend.

Wow! What a day! Thank you to all of the volunteers who made today possible with your energy and support. It truly takes a whole community to make a day like today go smoothly for all of our students! The end of the year can be very busy yet fun-filled. Please take a look at the fun had by all!

Congratulations to all of our students who made Honor Roll! We are incredibly proud of your hard work and accomplishments throughout this year. To our eighth graders who made honor roll, we look forward to celebrating your medals on Friday at graduation!

Field Day was a huge success! Thanks to our recess team and volunteers for making this day memorable and engaging for all ages! Check out that race!

WWII Tuskegee Airman Visit

After just returning from Washington D.C. and visiting the African American History Museum and the Air & Space Museum, our 8th Graders had a special visit from Jack Lyle, World War II Veteran and Tuskegee Airman. What an honor to be in his presence and hear his experiences defending our country!

BAM Buck Winner!

We had two principals for the afternoon! Congratulations, Penelope! Keep up your great attendance!

Fine Arts Night

The auditorium was transformed into the finest art gallery in Chicago featuring every single Bateman Artist! Congratulations to Ms. Tambone, Ms. Chrisman, and Mrs. Soto for inspiring our young creative minds and celebrating the arts at Bateman! A special thanks to the Student Council for providing light refreshments in the gallery for all of the visitors! Thank you to everyone who came to support Fine Arts Night!

Message from the Principal

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

As we are approaching the end of school year, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you for entrusting us with your children each and every day. We could not have such a successful school year without the support of our amazing community and feel incredibly fortunate to have our families in partnership to make Bateman a great school!

We are looking forward to next year and have been planning to make our upcoming school year the best yet! There are two things that we are asking of you to start the year off strongly:

1. Go to Great Schools and promote our school with your positive words!
2. Email our Friends Of Bateman, the Bateman Boosters, to become more involved with our school!

Now...on to our summer months! Research has shown that kids who do not read regularly over the summer can lose up to 3 months of progress. Think about that cumulative reading loss over the course of elementary school! We think it is very important that children maintain strong reading habits throughout the summer.

Your neighborhood libraries have terrific summer reading programs designed for kids, teens, and adults. You may consider signing up the whole family and making it a weekly event to visit and log your reading. Often times, the library provides rewards or incentives, such as the Rahm's Readers Summer Learning Challenge!

We have also extended our subscription to RAZ Kids for the entire summer! All students will have the opportunity to read books at their appropriate reading level. If you need your child's username and password, please reach out to your teacher.

Bateman Fine Arts Night
Be a patron of the arts and celebrate the accomplishments of all of our Bateman artists with our Fine Arts Team! Join us for a gallery walk with light refreshments at 5 pm in the Auditorium.

K-2: Dress up to explain the meaning of a word of your choice! Challenge your friends to guess what vocabulary word you are!
3-8: Do you have a favorite meme? Create an outfit that depicts the humor in your appropriately selected meme!

8th Grade Luncheon
Our 8th Graders will be celebrating their years at Bateman together at the annual 8th Grade Luncheon! Please make sure that all attire is appropriate and comfortable!

6th and 7th Grade Field Trip
Our 6th and 7th graders will be at Medieval Times in their culminating experience for social science! May the best knight win!

PTA General Meeting
Join the PTA for a General Meeting in the Bateman Library at 3:30 pm to learn about programming from Janet, the Children’s Librarian at Independence Library! Also, the date for Box Tops has been extended! Please bring all Box Tops by this Friday!

Learning Garden
Come join the Garden Club for a mini harvest and sign up to help with watering over the summer! We need YOUR help to make sure all of our plants thrive this summer!

Kindergarten Commencement
Tuesday, June 19th at 9:00 am

Congratulations to each of our kindergartners for completing their first year at Bateman! Come celebrate their hard work in the Bateman Auditorium. Following the commencement celebration, be sure to call for a reservation at HQ restaurant. They are opening up especially for Bateman families!

Pre-School Family Picnic
Tuesday, June 19th at 8:30 am & 2:00 pm

As a part of our end of the year celebration, we will have a Pre-School Family Picnic on the last day of school, Tuesday June 19^th. You are welcome to bring ANY food to share with your family. The picnic will take place on the school play lot, so please bring a blanket for comfort and sunscreen. All attendees must enter through door #1 by the North Office.
