View this email in your browser Message from the Principal Dear Bateman Families and Friends, As we are approaching the end of school year, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you for entrusting us with your children each and every day.  We could not have such a successful school year without the support of our amazing community and feel incredibly fortunate to have our families in partnership to make Bateman a great school!   We are looking forward to next year and have been planning to make our upcoming school year the best yet!  There are two things that we are asking of you to start the year off strongly: 1.  Go to Great Schools and promote our school with your positive words! 2.  Email our Friends Of Bateman, the Bateman Boosters, to  become more involved with our school!  Now...on to our summer months!  Research has shown that kids who do not read regularly over the summer can lose up to 3 months of progress. Think about that cumulative reading loss over the course of elementary school! We think it is very important that children maintain strong reading habits throughout the summer. Your neighborhood libraries have terrific summer reading programs designed for kids, teens, and adults. You may consider signing up the whole family and making it a weekly event to visit and log your reading. Often times, the library provides rewards or incentives, such as the Rahm's Readers Summer Learning Challenge! We have also extended our subscription to RAZ Kids for the entire summer!  All students will have the opportunity to read books at their appropriate reading level.  If you need your child's username and password, please reach out to your teacher. This week at Bateman Spirit Week All Week Show your school spirit and come to school ready for Spirit Week!  Please see below for the theme for each day!                  Monday, June 11th Choose Kind Challenge:  Clean up the floor without being asked! Spirit Day: Sports Day! Wear your sports gear to support your favorite team! Tuesday, June 12th Choose Kind Challenge:  Draw a picture for someone who may need a smile! Spirit Day: Twin Day! Dress up with a friend and plan to be a twin for the day! Honor Roll Breakfast We will be honoring students who are on the Bateman Honor Roll in a celebration hosted by the PTA.   Field Day Our field day is postponed for Tuesday due to the inclement weather on Monday!  Please send your child to school with appropriate clothes, gym shoes, and a water bottle!  Cross your fingers for a beautiful day for our children to enjoy their field day!                                  Bateman Fine Arts Night Be a patron of the arts and celebrate the accomplishments of all of our Bateman artists with our Fine Arts Team!  Join us for a gallery walk with light refreshments at 5 pm in the Auditorium.          Wednesday, June 13th Choose Kind Challenge:  Tell someone thank you for something you remembered them doing for you! Spirit Day: Crazy Hair Day! Let's see your craziest hair!   Father's Club Meeting: Join the Father's Club at Pitchfork at 6 pm to reflect on the year's events and to plan ahead for next year!                                   Thursday, June 14th Choose Kind Challenge:  Remind your friends to return their library books! Spirit Day: Word Day (K-2) & Meme Day (3-8) K-2: Dress up to explain the meaning of a word of your choice!  Challenge your friends to guess what vocabulary word you are! 3-8: Do you have a favorite meme? Create an outfit that depicts the humor in your appropriately selected meme! 8th Grade Luncheon Our 8th Graders will be celebrating their years at Bateman together at the annual 8th Grade Luncheon!  Please make sure that all attire is appropriate and comfortable! 6th and 7th Grade Field Trip Our 6th and 7th graders will be at Medieval Times in their culminating experience for social science!  May the best knight win!  PTA General Meeting Join the PTA for a General Meeting in the Bateman Library at 3:30 pm to learn about programming from Janet, the Children’s Librarian at Independence Library!  Also, the date for Box Tops has been extended!  Please bring all Box Tops by this Friday!                                       Friday, June 15th Choose Kind Challenge:  Tell an 8th Grader 'Congratulations' for graduating! Spirit Day: Purple & Gold Day! Sport your favorite school colors and show your Bateman Pride! 8th Grade Graduation Our 8th Graders will be graduating in the Bateman Auditorium at 9:00 am.  We are so proud of all of your accomplishments!  We wish you all the best as you move on to High School!                                  Learning Garden Come join the Garden Club for a mini harvest and sign up to help with watering over the summer!  We need YOUR help to make sure all of our plants thrive this summer!           Next Week at Bateman Kindergarten Commencement Tuesday, June 19th at 9:00 am Congratulations to each of our kindergartners for completing their first year at Bateman!  Come celebrate their hard work in the Bateman Auditorium.  Following the commencement celebration, be sure to call for a reservation at HQ restaurant.  They are opening up especially for Bateman families!   Pre-School Family Picnic Tuesday, June 19th at 8:30 am & 2:00 pm As a part of our end of the year celebration, we will have a Pre-School Family Picnic on the last day of school, Tuesday June 19th. You are welcome to bring ANY food to share with your family. The picnic will take place on the school play lot, so please bring a blanket for comfort and sunscreen. All attendees must enter through door #1 by the North Office. Looking Ahead at Bateman Buy your school supplies now!
