Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is Next Week!



We are so EXCITED to shower our AH-MAZING Bateman Teachers & Staff with lots of love and goodies for Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week May 2-6 - NEXT WEEK!

Our goal is to reach $3,000 to be able to provide every single person at the school with a $20 gift card from our Bateman Community. Let's show them how much we appreciate all they do for our kids throughout the school year! We are not quite a third of the way to our goal - can you help? Any amount you can give will make an impact. We are now able to accept Google Pay, Credit Card and PayPal.

Where Community is at the Heart of Every Project




This week we sat down with Danny Scott, owner and manager of The UPS Store @ 4044 N. Lincoln & The UPS Store @ 3320 W. Foster Ave. Danny has been printing Booster materials for years and came on as a sponsor this year. In addition he supports many (probably all) of the nearby schools, he is a 11 year resident of the Irving Park area, sits on the LSC of his neighborhood school, is a SSA Commissioner for the North Center Chamber of Commerce and was a co-founder of the “Friends Of” organization at Cleveland Elementary. Q: How long have you owned/managed The UPS Store?

A: For 17 years. I moved to Chicago from Kalamazoo, MI where I went to Western Michigan University and earned a degree in Political Science with a Philosophy minor. When I arrived in Chicago, my now business partner offered me the opportunity to invest and I decided to take the risk. In 2008, following the success of our Lincoln Ave. location, we opened a second location on Foster Ave. It’s been a fun rollercoaster of a ride being a franchisee and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

 

Q: What does it mean to be a franchisee?

A: Franchising, by definition, refers to small business owners who purchase the right to use an existing business's trademarks and proprietary knowledge. What’s great about The UPS Store is that once you account for the corporate oversight, you have a lot of freedom to support outside organizations that are local to your operating area. What that often looks like for me is supporting non-profit organizations with in-kind donations, or rather - donations of goods and services such as flyers, posters and banners. By donating these items organizations can use the funds they have in other ways.

 

Q: As a business owner, how do you view your responsibility to the community?

A: I grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI which is a fairly affluent suburb just outside of Detroit and I remember when I was little my mom went to a higher end store and asked to put up a sign for one of the events for the school. The manager declined and his response stuck with me, he said “we might be in the community but we’re not of the community”. As a business owner I’ve taken that philosophy and flipped it, I am both in the community and of the community. I actively participate and support the other organizations around me because I know that building a strong community starts with lifting each other up and helping where we can.

 

Q: What services do you offer at The UPS Store?

A: We’re built on our four pillars: Shipping, Packaging, Mailboxes and Printing. We have a notary on staff and specialize in all things paper: postcards, business cards, flyers, signage, laminating, faxing, shredding, binding, etc. The mailboxes are not PO boxes but rather shipping locations that allow a home based business to have a commercial storefront address; this is often necessary when incorporating business as the law doesn’t always allow for residential addresses to be used. 

 

Q: What are your favorite Irving Park places?

A: If you cannot find me at my office on Lincoln Avenue,  I’m probably at Horner Park or California Park with the kids, biking the 312, playing on the playground at our neighborhood school or enjoying a meal at Churro Waffle.

 

Q: What is something about you that no one knows?

A: I have performed onstage at Disney World (at Cinderella Castle and at Epcot).

All proceeds from this event will support our sports teams.  Proceeds will be used to pay team fees for our sports leagues, as well as go towards purchasing new jerseys and equipment for our sports teams.

100-Mile Tracker Form
Don't forget to complete your tracker form and bring it to the event here at Bateman on May 18th!  This form will be used to verify completion of your 100 miles.  The goal is to complete 99 miles by walking, running, or riding your bike, and then complete the 100th mile at Bateman. 100-Mile Challenge Mile Tracker

Our 100-Mile Celebration will take place on Wednesday, May 18th, from 4:00-5:30. The event will take place rain or shine.

STEPS TO ENROLL YOUR KINDERGARTENER


1. Complete the Bateman Online Registration Form
Complete the Bateman Online Registration Form to indicate your intent to enroll for Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 School Year and sign up for a Registration Day. 
This will serve as a place holder for all Bateman Neighborhood Children who plan to join us in the Fall of 2022! Please complete this PRIOR to attending a registration day.  If you are unsure if you reside within the Bateman Attendance Boundaries, please check here prior to completing the form. All students outside of the Bateman Attendance Area must apply at go.cps.edu.

2. Attend a Registration Day!
Come to the North Foyer on a Registration Day at 9am for a Kindergarten Tour and complete your enrollment forms immediately following! You'll experience a small presentation of "A Day in the Life of a Bateman Kindergartener", visit classrooms, and walk away with your registration packet!

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We hope you had a wonderful and well-deserved Spring Break with your families. We were thrilled to see all of our students back this morning ready for Quarter 4!

At Bateman, we believe in strong parent partnership in order to support each individual child. This week provides a unique opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to continue a collaborative nature between home and school. All are invited to attend Report Card Pick Up on Wednesday, April 20th. It is a vital time to discuss your child’s progress throughout the school year, celebrate their accomplishments, and set goals to strongly finish the year. Educators have sent sign up sheets via email to all parents prior to Spring Break. We encourage you to sign up for a time that works best for you - either in person or virtual. 

At Report Card Pick Up, families will be able to peruse the Book Fair, participate in LSC Elections, and find missing items from the Lost & Found. Families may also browse the Pop Up Spiritwear Shop (Cash Only).

We look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday to celebrate and lift up each of our students!

100 Mile Challenge!
Now - May 18th


This year, in conjunction with our school's 100th year, our Bateman Mile will be a 100-mile challenge!  Participants walk or run a total of 99 miles between February 8th and May 17th (average of 1 mile per day).  The culminating event will take place on May 18th when all participants will complete the 100th mile together at Bateman.  The event on May 18th will include additional outdoor activities and games.

Participants will need to do the following:

  • complete a simple pledge form which will include information about ordering a t-shirt

  • download, print, and track their miles using a 100-mile tracker

  • miles are to be completed outside of school time

  • 2,000 steps = 1 mile

  • bring their completed tracker page to the event on May 18

Spring Scholastic Book Fair
Tuesday, April 19th - Friday, April 22nd


The Spring Book Fair has arrived! The Spring Scholastic Book Fair is April 19th-22nd. Explore the Book Fair Options, start your ewallet or Sign Up to Volunteer!  Students will have the opportunity to shop during the school day. Parents will also have an opportunity to shop on Report Card Pick Up Day, April 20th, in person! Books can also be purchased online at www.scholastic.com/bf/bateman.

In-Boundary Kindergarten Enrollment will open Tuesday, April 19th. Information will be emailed in the morning of Tuesday, April 19th via the Bateman Buzz and on the Bateman Website. For more information, please visit the Bateman Enrollment Page.

Report Card Pick Up is this Wednesday, April 20th from 11am - 6pm. Educators have all contacted families to schedule times to meet and discuss your child's progress. This is a vital time to partner with your child's teacher to best support their education! If you have not scheduled a time for your conference, please reach out immediately!

Parent Health and Wellness with JZ Studio
Thursdays at 9am | Bateman Turf


Join Bateman parent Jenna Zaffino of JZ Studio every Thursday from April 21st - May 26th at 9:00 am on the Bateman Turf! You'll participate in a free, weekly session full of mindful movement and practices! Make sure to bring your yoga mat!

Come to 4506 W Lawrence Ave to Shop to Donate at Clark Street Sports! There are two days to shop: Saturday, April 23rd from 10am - 6pm & Sunday, April 24th from 10am - 4pm. My Voice My School Parent Survey
April 1, 2022 and April 30, 2022

The annual My Voice My School Parent survey is an incredible opportunity for parents’/guardians’ important perspective to be heard. Parents and guardians of CPS students are invited to complete a survey about their child's school between April 1, 2022 and April 30, 2022. The survey takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, it is available in several languages, and it is completely anonymous. Bradley Fieldhouse is so excited to announce the dates for the 2022 Bradley Kids Summer Camp!

Bradley Kids Summer Camp is for boys and girls ages 5-13. Campers will be grouped into pods based off the guidelines from the CDC & the state government. Pods will be divided up by ages each week to ensure each camper has the best experience possible! Bradley Kids Camp includes all activities such as sports, crafts, learning activities, and more! We believe camp can be an option that's affordable for everyone!

STEPS TO ENROLL YOUR KINDERGARTENER


1. Complete the Bateman Online Registration Form
On April 19th, the Bateman Online Registration Form will be emailed via the Bateman Buzz. Complete the form to indicate your intent to enroll for Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 School Year and sign up for a Registration Day.
This will serve as a place holder for all Bateman Neighborhood Children who plan to join us in the Fall of 2022! Please complete this PRIOR to attending a registration day.  If you are unsure if you reside within the Bateman Attendance Boundaries, please check here prior to completing the form. All students outside of the Bateman Attendance Area must apply at go.cps.edu.

2. Attend a Registration Day!
Come to the North Foyer on a Registration Day at 9am for a Kindergarten Tour and complete your enrollment forms immediately following! You'll experience a small presentation of "A Day in the Life of a Bateman Kindergartener", visit classrooms, and walk away with your registration packet!
