Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

We hope you have enjoyed the first of our two CARE Days. As you know, we are Committed for All to feel Recharged & Energized!

The holiday season has arrived and we are grateful to all of the families who have generously donated to support our community. Wishing you more relaxation in the days ahead and a very Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

Please keep in mind that all CPS buildings will be closed from Wednesday, November 25th - Friday, November 27th, including food distribution. Please come to the Sacramento side of Bateman today or tomorrow to pick up 5 days worth of meals! The full Remote Learning schedule will resume on Monday, November 30th from 8:15am - 3:15pm.

Quarter 1 Showcase

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

We hope you are having a wonderful day of conferences with your child's teacher(s). This is such an important day to recognize the progress of your child throughout the first quarter and to continue building a strong partnership with your child's teacher!

Year after year, we look forward to the end of the quarter showcases to celebrate student learning and achievements. Classrooms have the opportunity to take their knowledge out in to the world, whether it is teaching another class, advising a leader, or creating a gallery installation within the community. Students are encouraged to 'go public' and make a difference with their new knowledge. In place of inviting parents in to the building to partake in the experience of our showcases, our educators have designed virtual showcases! We have highlighted some of the final pieces below for your enjoyment in the safety of your homes. Just as in an in-person showcase, you are invited to peruse each grade level as you'd like. We hope you enjoy the Quarter 1 Virtual Showcase!

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

As we approach Thanksgiving week, we are reminded of how grateful we are for our school community and the families we serve. We see the diligence of our students in their work and engagement, the unwavering support and encouragement of our parents and caretakers, and the dedication and resiliency of our educators. The partnerships and collaborative efforts are stronger than ever but we also see a need for our school community to take a break because as a school, we CARE. We Commit for All to feel Recharged & Energized.

Although we cannot alter the permanent Remote Learning schedule, we have decided to modify the daily schedule for Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th.  All teachers will be utilizing the morning synchronous time as platforms for creative sessions. Teachers and students will be generating these together and students will have choice in the sessions they attend, including arts, social and emotional, mindfulness, and more! All students will meet with the homeroom for their morning meeting at the beginning of the day (8:15am) using the normal links. Teachers will be sharing the grade level plan in their weekly learning plan communication with families. All sessions following 11:15am will be asynchronous (there will be no live classes in the afternoon).

We are excited for students to have the opportunity to see friends from across their grade level, as well as offer more hands-on options for the afternoon off of a screen. There will be a menu of activities provided per grade band for families, pods, or caretakers to utilize in the afternoon.

We hope you use these two days to take CARE.

Our best,

Georgia & Kate

Report Card Pick Up

How do I set up an appointment with my child's teacher for conferences?
Each Bateman teacher will be reaching out this week to schedule conferences. All conferences will take place virtually. As a reminder, this is a day of student non-attendance; however, students are encouraged to attend and participate in their conference.  If you have special considerations, please inform your child's teacher.

Report Cards
How can I view my child's grades prior to report cards?

All report cards will be mailed via USPS. Please ensure that your address is updated in the North Office with Ms. Rivera.  You will receive a Progress Check-In Reminder email each Sunday evening, beginning on October 25th. It is important for parents to continuously monitor student growth and grades. You will receive this email on a weekly basis as a friendly reminder to check Parent Portal.

We encourage all families to opt in to Parent Portal on Aspen to view your child's grades weekly. This helps foster clear communication between teachers, students, and parents in order to support each child's success. Please visit the CPS Parent Portal page for more details regarding your account.

Parents are also invited to Google Classrooms as a guardian to view weekly updates and view missing assignments. Please speak to your child's teacher regrading access, if needed.

Important future events & Ways to be Involved!
Local School Council

LSC elections will take place on Wednesday, November 18th. You should have received a mail-in ballot form to participate in the upcoming LSC Election.

All parents/guardians will be sent a mail-in ballot with a pre-paid return envelope.
● The mail-in ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on the date of the election (either November 18 or November 19).
● Parents can also drop off their mail-in ballot at their school up to the date of the election.
● The district will use Aspen data to send every CPS parent or guardian a mail-in ballot and prepaid return envelope by the week of November 2.

Due to COVID-19, parents, guardians and staff can choose between either voting in-person at their respective schools, submitting their ballots by mail, or dropping off their mail-in ballots. For in-person voting, the district is implementing stringent health and safety measures, including social distancing, face covering requirements, and completing a health screener and temperature check prior to entering school buildings. The district will also offer curbside voting for individuals with disabilities.

Community members will still be required to vote in person because the district does not have access to information for every prospective community voter living within a school’s boundary in order to provide a mail-in ballot.

For more information, please visit the Bateman LSC Page or the CPS LSC Election Page.

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend.  We have officially begun the second quarter and are looking forward to the tremendous learning that will take place! Our students’ work has been showcased in a myriad of ways and we are so proud of them! Keep an eye out for a special email in the near future to highlight their growth and accomplishments in their first quarter.

In order to continue the momentum from quarter 1, we met with teachers on Friday to reflect, plan and create tools to help kickoff a strong quarter 2. Our teachers spent a great deal of time thoughtfully planning and creating engaging, relevant, and meaningful lessons. It is critical that parents remain informed about their child’s learning targets for the quarter and updated on any goals that may have shifted during the first quarter. Please see below for Quarter 2 At-A-Glance per grade level so you know how to support your child as a partner in their educational journey.

Thank you for all you continue to do to #BeBatemanSTRONG!

Warmly,

Georgia and Kate

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

Election Day is nearly upon us (we’re sure you didn’t need us to tell you that). Like many of us, you may find yourself riding an emotional, political rollercoaster...most likely, our children are, too.

Voting is part of being a good citizen and a lesson children need to understand but only with support! At Bateman, we believe that parents and educators need to provide a safe space for children to reflect and share. It is our role to allow them to ask questions about what they’re seeing, how they’re feeling and what they think - it is our job, first and foremost, to listen.  This conversation will also provide a chance to dispel any scary rumors or misinformation they may have come across.

Here are some ideas on how to get the conversation going.

  • Show and tell. Lawn signs, bumper stickers, mailers, ballots and billboards are all signs of the election season. Use them as a starting point to discuss the presidential and other elections happening this year.

  • Explain voting — and hold a family “election.” Voting is a way for a group of people to decide something. To illustrate the point, hold your own election in your family: Should you have chicken or beef for dinner? Encourage respectful debate about the pros and cons of each. Have each person cast a secret ballot — majority rules!

  • Discuss electing leaders, and what that means to you. Elections are a way to choose people to serve in government. The people we elect to serve in government make rules and decide how to spend money we all pay in taxes. We vote for people who we believe would be good at making rules and decisions. Talk with your children about who you support, and why.

  • Talk about rights and responsibilities. Every vote counts! As a good citizen, voting is a way to make your opinion heard and change things that may need changing. It is both a right for people over the age of 18 and a responsibility.  Your voice matters!

  • Discuss a kid-friendly issue. The people that we support as voters are those who support issues we care about. Are you concerned about the environment, education or another issue? Talk with your child about an issue that you can impact by voting.

Leading up to the election, our teachers have been infusing several read alouds, including,  Vote for our Future, Grace for President, Sofia Valdez for Prez and many more options from Teaching Books!  We encourage you to take time on our day off to exercise each of our rights to vote to utilize some of these great resources!

Thank you for all you continue to do to #BeBatemanSTRONG!

Warmly,

Georgia and Kate
