Dear Bateman / Cleveland Parents,
On February 20, 2017, CPS will be closed for President's Day. NBGC will be open from 8:00am - 6:00pm. Program will be held at the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club located at 2501 W Irving Park Road. If your child is enrolled in the Bateman / Cleveland NBGC after-school program the fee is included in Session 3. If not, the walk in fee is $60. Please make sure your child has a lunch for the day. An afternoon snack will be provided. Bateman Elementary is aware of the protests planned for the National Day Without Immigrants tomorrow, Feb. 16. At Chicago Public Schools, it is a priority to provide a welcoming, safe and positive place to learn for students every school day, no matter where they were born or what their immigration status. We respectfully request that parents and guardians ensure that students attend school tomorrow so that they can learn and continue to grow as the next generation of leaders, as well as avoid an unexcused absence. We appreciate your support.
Dear Bateman Families,
CPS rolled out a budget "freeze" for all school last Monday, which resulted in a loss of $206,334 for Bateman (2.71% of its total 2016-2017 budget). The amount for each school was based on remaining funds available from all school budgets. These cuts are due to the current CPS budget deficit along with the state not coming through with the $215 million that was promised. At this moment, we have a minimum budget to work with for the rest of the school year. Despite the mid-year challenges, Bateman will move forward and stay strong for our children. "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." -Martin Luther King Jr. Sincerely, Georgia Davos-Vetas Message from the Chicago Board of Education
The events of the past few days have left many in our community feeling uneasy, especially those families from outside the United States. We want to remind these families that as a District, we are proud of our diversity, and that their children are valued, welcomed and respected in our schools. Please read the attached letter below.
