Our students have been busy creating their one of a kind art work for the Square 1 Art Program. The Square 1 Art Program allows family members to order their child's art work on useful and personalized keepsakes. Bateman Elementary has partnered with Square 1 Art so every student feels like an accomplished artist while raising funds for our school. Please take a moment to look through their personalized catalog. Submit your order from the catalog in one of 3 easy ways: online, phone, or paper order. There is free shipping to the school if ordered by November 6th, 2017. However, you can still order gifts throughout the year. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Tambone ([email protected]) or Ms. Chrisman ([email protected]).
Today we held our Learning Garden Kickoff! This Learning Garden will be enjoyed by the whole school community--especially K-1st and 7-8th grades. A long-term school wide project to engage our students in growing real food, we hope that this garden becomes an established part of teaching and school culture at Bateman.
Healthy eating and hands-on outdoor learning can have huge impacts on a child’s health and well-being throughout their lives. The Kitchen Community will be working with our Garden Team to grow a beautiful and productive garden as well as to provide teaching materials, gardening materials and training, and to highlight opportunities to learn. The Learning Garden Team will be reaching out to the whole school community with opportunities to participate. Families who would like to get involved and know more, may join us at a Bateman Community Garden Meeting on Tuesday, November 14th at 3:30 in room 118. Email questions to [email protected] and visit thekitchencommunity.org to learn more about Learning Gardens. Mather will have over 20 organizations attending.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Undocumented Student Resources from NEIU will be giving a workshop at 12:00pm which will help many students. The keynote speaker (10am) is a dynamic woman from NIU who will come with her group, Dream Action, which also works with undocumented students. She has a very engaging story and is a great speaker so this would be appropriate for everyone, not just our immigrant and refugee students. The student-led social justice youth council from the Hana center will lead an interactive session for teens. One of our students is active on that council and is excited to present. There will also be activities for parents including 2 Know Your Rights workshops, a renter's rights workshop, mental health and medicare info. We are very proud to announce that Bateman is once again rated as a Level 1+ school!
According to the district’s policy for evaluating school performance, also known as the School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP), Bateman Elementary is again rated a Level 1+ school which is the highest rating a Chicago Public School can receive. We want to thank students, teachers, staff, community members and parents for helping Bateman maintain this level of excellence. We hope to continue this success as we strive for greatness in our school and our community. We would like to thank all the families, neighbors, and community members who helped make this one of the most successful car washes ever! All proceeds will go towards all the 8th graders who are going to Washington D.C. Lastly we would like to thank the PTA from the bottom of our hearts for helping to sponsor this event and for supporting us the entire day.
