What a wonderful celebration! The 6th grade class has finished various projects from the 3rd quarter units of The Breadwinner and The House on Mango Street and they showcased their work. 6th graders invited K-5 students to view performed vignettes, graffiti walls, time capsules and the Kabul marketplace. Students also sold various items and compete in a market competition. All classes were given Breadwinner bucks and students had the opportunity to purchase healthy snacks, school supplies, and various trinkets. Great Job! Boostin' for Bateman was a great success! Thank you Bateman Boosters for organizing such an amazing fundraising event! Thank you to the Bateman Community for supporting the students of Bateman Elementary! Boostin for Bateman was a wonderful evening with neighbors, parents and friends who participated in our inaugural silent auction with hundreds of great items to bid on! Auction items included Cubs and Sox tickets, restaurant gift cards, framed artwork, community services, experiences and much more! Even Bateman student musicians showcased their talents!

Well deserved! Feliz Dia de las Madres! Un delicioso desayuno fue ofrecido en Bateman para celebrar el Dia de las Madres. Bien merecido Mamas! Bateman School has had the great fortune of partnering with THE GO TEAM which is a volunteer pet therapy program. The GO TEAM will be working with a group of students over three consecutive MONDAYS at Bateman. There will be three dog owners and their dogs that are trained Pet Therapy Dogs designed to entertain the children with tricks and provide a lot of love and companionship. The GO TEAM leaders are Alexa and her dog RIOT, Judy and her dog BUDDY and Sandi and her dog BAMBI. We are hoping to continue this partnership next year as well at Bateman. This year the dog therapy program started May 2 and will also take place on May 9 and may 16.
Mr. Jared Belot from the Creative School Site Team visited Bateman to observed 7th Grade students learning the 5 pillars of Hip Hop; Dance, Graffiti and Street Art, Rap/Spoken Word, Djing, and Community. Students worked with teaching artists from the Old Town School of Folk Music. Bateman was one of the four CPS schools to win the $15,000 Creative Schools Fund Grant. This Grant made it possible for teaching artists to teach our students dance & Hip Hop.
Our wonderful LSC and PTA parents have organized a series of events for our amazing teachers and staff. On day 1, they decorated the teacher's lounge with a refreshing tropical theme and offered delicious snacks for them. Background soft music enhanced the ambiance. On day 2, teachers and staff were surprised with "classroom room service". Our parents set up carts with healthy food that were offered at each classroom and offices for breakfast. Fruit, yogurt, juice, bread, and more! And this is just a little token of appreciation for all they do for our students. Thank you teachers and staff!
