Message from the Principal Dear Bateman Families and Friends, It amazes us every year how fast the school year comes to a close!  As we enter our last two weeks of school, we would like to congratulate our 8th grade students on their graduation and wish them the very best as they move on to high schools all over the city. We are SO proud of you! We truly hope you take the Bateman Core Values and spread your empowerment, inclusivity, and kindness to all who cross your path.  Please come back to share all your amazing accomplishments! We are already planning for the 2019-2020 school year. Part of the planning includes class placement for each student. Each grade level team plays an integral role in placing students in the best educational setting for each child. We examine academic performance, social skills, class composition, and special services. Homerooms will be posted in Aspen during the month of August.  We will not be mailing any placement letters this year, so please make sure that your email is updated in Aspen prior to the end of the school year.  Please visit Maribel or Evelyn in the North Office for more assistance. Supply lists will be sent home on the last day of school with report cards.  You have the opportunity to purchase your child's supplies through School Tool Box (please see below) and have the supplies sent directly to your house! We are also in the beginning phases of planning our parent workshops for next year as well as after school offerings and want your input!  Please help us by taking this brief survey to help guide our decisions. Upcoming Events at Bateman School Tool Box Order Today! Thinking ahead to next year?  Skip the lines at the store and don't worry about any sales - order your school supplies today!  School Tool Box has all of your supply lists ready to in a completely customizable order form to meet your needs.  Supplies will come in one box and will be sent to your home on a date of your choice.       Bateman Chess-A-Thon Tuesday, June 11th at 3:30 pm | Bateman Playground (weather permitting) Come out to challenge Bateman's Chess Club or get a lesson from one of the team members!  $1.00 per game or lesson for students and $2.00 per lesson/game for adults.  Donations are welcome!  You can also take on Coach Geisler or another Bateman staff member for $2.00 per game.  All proceeds go towards the Bateman Chess Team awards and supplies.  Please contact Coach Geisler if you have any questions!   Bateman Theater Club One Act Festival Tuesday, June 11th at 4:30 pm | Music Room Calling all theater lovers!  Come support our Theater Club at the One Act Festival on Tuesday, June 11th at 4:30 pm in the Music Room. You will have the opportunity to see 8 One Act Performances that were directed and casted by our very own students!  Please contact Mrs. Soto with any questions!   Girls on the Run Bake Sale Thursday, June 13th at 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm | Bateman Playground Our Girls on the Run 3rd-5th Grade Team will be hosting a Bake Sale this Thursday, June 13th!  All proceeds will go towards building a Little Library in the front of the school to give students access to books all year long.  If you are interested in donating any baked goods to help the Girls on the Run Team, please sign up here!  Contact Ms. Rowe with any questions. Freeze Pop Friday! Friday, June 14th at 3:00 pm | Bateman Playground Enjoy a fun popsicle and support the Bateman PTA on Friday, June 14th after school!  Popsicles will be for sale for $2 each.  See you there!  Contact the Bateman PTA with any questions. Adopt the Learning Garden! Friday, June 14th at 3:30 pm or Saturday, June 15th at 10 AM  Learning Garden Are you interested in adopting the Learning Garden for a week this summer?  You will have the opportunity to learn how to keep our garden alive and thriving this summer at the Adopt the Learning Garden Event on Friday, June 14th at 3:30 pm or Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 am.  Come to sign up for your week to water Bateman's Outdoor Classroom!  Please contact Ms. Carrick with any questions.   8th Grade Graduation Friday, June 14th at 9 am | Bateman Auditorium Our 8th Graders will be graduating this Friday at 9:00 AM.  Tickets for families will be distributed to students on Thursday, June 13th following their Luncheon.  If you have any questions regarding graduation, please contact the main office.   2019 Field Day Volunteers Needed Sign Up Today! Field Day is Tuesday, June 18, 2019 Field Day is next week and we need all hands on deck to make this event fun-filled for all of our students!  Please consider signing up to volunteer today!  The more volunteers, the better!  We will send communication prior to school starting if the weather is not conducive for Field Day.  The rain date will be Wednesday, June 19.  Contact Mr. Fernandez or Ms. Ella with any questions.   In-Boundary Kindergarten and New Family Registration ONGOING! | North Office Do you have a child ready for Kindergarten in the 2019-2020 school year?  Are you new to the Bateman Community?  Please help us prepare for next year by attending our Kindergarten and New Family Registration Week.  Families living within the neighborhood boundaries of Bateman Elementary should enroll new students for the school year 2019-20 during this week, Monday-Friday between 8am and 4pm.  If you are unsure if you are within Bateman's boundaries, click here.   Please bring the following with you to register: Your child’s Birth Certificate (2) Proofs of current address: this can be in the form of a gas or light bill, a drivers license, a state ID, a medical card or proof of moving date from Post Office. If possible, current medical records. CPS Summer Initiative Starting Now! The district has been working with the City of Chicago and sister agencies to ensure all CPS students have access to safe, fun, and free activities all summer long. Horner Park Farmers Market ...is now open every Saturday!  Join the community and support local farmers each weekend on the corner of Montrose & California from 9 AM - 1 PM!  Visit  farmersmarket.hornerpark.org for more information!   Bike Week at the Farmers Market Join North River Commission and Active Transportation Alliance to celebrate Bike Week in Chicago at the Horner Park Farmers Market on June 22nd. Albany Park's own Tailwind Cycles will be on hand with their mobile bike repair to provide free tune-ups, Chicago Bicycle Ambassadors will provide bike safety demonstrations and materials, and NRC will be raffling off bike gear & handing out free reflective helmet and bike stickers for youth.  Visit theirFacebook Event for more information!   Flavors of Albany Park Calling all foodies!
