Message from the Principal
Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We are thrilled to share the news that for the third year in a row, Bateman has achieved a "1+" rating by CPS for 2018-2019 school year, which is the highest rating an elementary school can earn according to the School Quality Rating Policy! This rating is derived from a variety of factors including our students' attainment and growth on the MAP assessment (grades 2-8), our student attendance rate, and the student and staff results from the 5Essentials survey.  We achieved the highest SQRP rating Bateman has ever received, a 4.3!

While we believe the school rating is an indicator of the great things happening at Bateman every day, we also know that "success" for our students is measured in so many other ways.  Success is shown when Bateman students are empowered to think critically about their world, include all opinions regardless of background or need, and show their empathy and kindness in all situations.

Some practices that Bateman attributes to the success of the past year are the following:
  • Teachers spend hours together as teams to develop thoughtful curriculum and design differentiated learning tasks to meet the varied needs of our student population. This requires intense thoughtfulness and commitment, something our educators have embraced.
  • Educators meet for two hours after school two times per quarter to analyze the progress of specific plans created for students who need extra supports at all levels.  Intervention and acceleration are a part of our daily practices at Bateman to bridge the opportunity gap in an effort to make Bateman equitable for all students.
  • The inclusion model at Bateman supports the whole child and allows for students to receive more individualized supports at all grade levels, including students with diverse learning needs and language needs.  This model takes a high level of collaboration across our staff to ensure that each student is growing and meeting grade level standards.
  • BAM! The Bateman Attendance Matters plan has encouraged all students to be here, all on time each and every day.  Our attendance is still above 96%.

While we are incredibly proud of our ongoing progress, we have much work yet to do to become a school of equity in which every single child gets what they need from our school.  We welcome the opportunity to continuously improve and are excited to collaborate with the entire Bateman community to ensure that our core values are visible in Bateman and beyond!

Although there is always more work to do, let’s take a moment to pause and celebrate!  Please help us in congratulating our educators, staff, and YOU, the Bateman community!  We know and believe that Bateman is a great place for students to learn and grow because of the outpouring of support from all involved in our school.

We plan to talk more about the strengths, challenges and opportunities that this rating presents at our upcoming parent organization meetings, as well as our Latte with our Leaders!

As always, thank you for staying connected and showing our community what it means to #BeBateman!
