Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We are thrilled to share the news that for the fourth year in a row, Bateman has achieved a "1+" rating by CPS for 2019-2020 school year, which is the highest rating an elementary school can earn according to the School Quality Rating Policy! This rating is derived from a variety of factors including our students' attainment and growth on the MAP assessment (grades 2-8), our student attendance rate, and the student and staff results from the 5Essentials survey.  We are especially proud to share that we accomplished our goal of 75% of students being at or above reading level (attainment), the highest to date, according to SQRP.

While we believe the school rating is an indicator of the great things happening at Bateman every day, we also know that "success" for our students is measured in so many other ways.  Success is shown when Bateman students are empowered to think critically about their world, include all opinions regardless of background or need, and show their empathy and kindness in all situations.

Some practices that we attribute to the success of the past year are the following:

  • Our Educators. Our teachers never stop learning. Last year, teachers attended countless professional development sessions to further enhance their practices. Our teachers care immensely for every single child in our building and stop at no end to meet every need. All models at Bateman take high levels of collaboration across our staff to ensure that each student is growing and meeting grade level standards.
  • Our Focus.  Teachers spent hours together to develop thoughtful curriculum and design differentiated learning tasks to meet the varied needs of our student population in alignment with our CIWP.  Teachers incorporated social action in assessments, strengthened their workshop and guided reading practices, and continuously analyzed data to inform instruction.  Educators met for two hours after school two times per quarter to analyze the progress of specific plans created for students who need extra supports at all levels.  Intervention and acceleration are a part of our daily practices at Bateman to bridge the opportunity gap in an effort to make Bateman equitable for all students.
  • Our Students. Our students bring our building to life. They are celebrated and included in decisions. They learn empathy and are prepared for the real world through the inclusion model, which supports the whole child and allows for students to receive more individualized supports. Their culture, language, and identities are celebrated each and every day!
  • Our Community.  We have seen our families come together in celebration throughout the past year like never before.  Through think-tank sessions, Dual Language meetings, or parent meetings - our community is greatly showing a true partnership in this important work: our children.
Although there is always more work to do, let’s take a moment to pause and celebrate!  Please help us in congratulating our educators, staff, and YOU, the Bateman community!  We know and believe that Bateman is a great place for students to learn and grow because of the outpouring of support from all involved in our school.

As always, thank you for staying connected and showing our community what it means to #BeBateman!  We need YOUR help to continue the great progress of our school and know that

Be Empowered • Be Inclusive • Be Kind

Be Bateman!

All the best,
Georgia & Kate

Square 1 Arts Orders
Right Now! Orders due TODAY, November 19th

Square 1 art is a family focused fundraiser for Bateman’s visual arts classrooms!  Each PreK-4th grade student is currently working with their art teacher to create a work of art, and once completed you will have an opportunity to purchase their masterpiece on a variety of high quality products.  The focus of the fundraiser is the accomplishments of your student, which creates conversations between about their art at home, dialog regarding art decision and choice, as well as memorable keepsakes family members can’t resist. At the end of the fundraiser our student’s creativity has been affirmed, our parents have a lasting memory, and Bateman’s art department has raised valuable funds.

Free shipping will be included on orders placed in the first two weeks. Ms. Tambone and Ms. Chrisman will bring all orders directly to each homeroom teacher and student to ensure their keepsakes make it home safely.  Bateman will receive 33% of the profits made from our school’s order and that money will be used to purchase supplies such as oil pastels, acrylic paint, canvas, and other classroom consumables.

For more information regarding Square 1 Art, go to www.square1art.com or ask Ms. Chrisman or Ms. Tambone.
