Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Family,

Happy October! With fall colors starting to appear in the trees that line Richmond, we are reminded of the beauty of change and adaptation. Over the course of just the first month of school, many changes have occurred and many of our community members have been called to adapt. We have the privilege of witness change in the sense of growth on a daily basis - the growth in our children. All have adapted beautifully into strong classroom communities and have already grown academically.

Yesterday, we had the honor of meeting with our educators for our first Flex Day of the year. This is a time when we gather after school to collaborate, analyze student progress, and create solutions of supports for our students.  Our staff began this integral work yesterday and within this week will have completed their first round of analyzing the beginning of the year baseline data for each child, creating differentiated guided groups, shifting units of study based on trends in areas of opportunity, and identifying students who need acceleration or intervention. As parents are partners in this work, all student progress will be communicated within the next two weeks. We will inform you when to anticipate receiving those updates.

Additionally, we encourage you to read the message below from our Bateman Wellness Team as we strive to promote a healthy school for our children!

Bateman Wellness Policy Notes
As we move into our second month of school, we want to take a moment to share a few important reminders regarding CPS and Bateman health and wellness policies.  Please note that wellness policies apply all day, including when before and after school programs are taking place. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Nowak at jdnowak@cps.edu.  Thank you for all that you do to help keep Bateman a healthy school!

Approved Snack List
Here is a link to our Approved Snack List.

Beverages: The following beverages are allowed in school:
-Plain water: All day, in a clear plastic bottle, with no added flavors, colors, or mixes
-100% juice: At lunch only, packaging should be labeled 100% juice
-Milk that is provided by the school at breakfast and lunch
-No other beverages are allowed.

Breakfast: Only the school-provided breakfast is allowed in school.  Food from home is not to be brought in for breakfast.

Lunch: If a student brings their lunch from home, we encourage healthy choices.  Food must not be shared with other students, and all items, such as chips, etc., should be individually sized.  Large bags of chips, etc., are not allowed.

Birthdays and School Celebrations: Birthdays and school-wide celebrations may not include food such as candy, sweets, bakery foods, etc.  This includes Halloween later this month.

Birthdays and school-wide celebrations can be celebrated with non-food items.

We have two celebration days when healthy or unhealthy foods may be brought to school.  These two days are the classroom holiday celebrations (Friday before winter break) and the end-of-the-year classroom celebrations (last day of student attendance for the school year).

Bateman Mile Update: Due to health guidelines that are currently in place, we are postponing our event until the spring. Stay tuned for our BIG announcement in January of 2022!

Warm regards,

Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloeppper
