View this email in your browser Mid-May 2018 Message from the Principal Dear Bateman Families and Friends, We were so overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from our entire community at our Spring Fling last Thursday!  Wow!  What a fantastic evening to celebrate all things Bateman!  A huge thank you to the Bateman Boosters and all of our sponsors for making the event spectacular.  If you have not had an opportunity, please visit our website to see our video exemplifying what it means to Be Bateman! We have two very exciting announcements to share with our community!  First, alongside Alderman Mell, we are incredibly thrilled to announce that after more than a year of advocacy and collaboration with CPS, our school will be receiving a brand new artificial turf soccer field!  The capital project will break ground in the coming months and is expected to be completed before the beginning of the 2019 school year!  More information about playground access will be forthcoming. Second, we are excited to announce that one of our half day preschool programs will be phasing in to a full day preschool program this upcoming school year.  This means that we will have three sections of preschool:        1. Half Day Dual Language Preschool Program        2. Half Day Blended Preschool Program        3. Full Day Preschool Program Anticipated hours of the program will be 8:15am - 3:15pm.  The priority window for applying is currently open and can be accessed here.  The priority application window closes May 18th. Finally, Kindergarten Registration is now open! We cannot wait to meet all of our newest Bateman kindergarteners. Please help us plan ahead by registering as soon as possible in the North Office. These three core values will represent what each Bateman student will strive for on a daily basis!  Thank you to everyone who has helped us choose the words that are in our final vote! Please vote here! Choose Kind Challenge All Month! All year, we have been encouraging all of our students to #ChooseKind! Every morning, students will hear an extra challenge to show their kindness in different ways and students are recognized during afternoon announcements.  We received so much positive feedback that we would like to see it go through the end of the year but we need YOUR help!  If you have a daily challenge you would like to see our students complete to #choosekind, please let us know by filling out this form! The book fair will be set up until 2:30 on Thursday and Friday!  You will even have an opportunity to grant some teacher wishes by purchasing their favorite books!                   6th & 7th Northlight Theatre Performance Friday, May 18th at 9:35 am & 10:35 am Auditorium 6th and 7th Grade Parents are invited to attend the culminating performance of our Northlight Theatre partnership.  The students have been working all semester to Speak Up! and have selected their own topics to perform.  The sixth grade performance at 9:35 am will be exploring the unrest in Syria and the seventh grade performance will be exploring social and emotional issues.  Please come to support our students!             Next Week at Bateman Washington D.C. Parent & Student Meeting Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:00 pm Auditorium Please come to discuss the 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip with Mr. Phelps. You will leave feeling prepared to send your child off on their 8th Grade Adventure!  We look forward to seeing you there! School Tours Friday, May 25th at 9:00 am North Foyer Please join in a tour of the school where you will learn about the school environment, instruction, and have your questions answered by tour leaders and administration. No registration required.
