P-EBT Information from CPS

Dear CPS Families,

As part of the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CPS students are now eligible for food benefits as a result of the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). Through P-EBT, eligible school children receive temporary emergency nutrition benefits in the form of funds loaded on an EBT card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts Link cards.

All CPS students, regardless of income or citizenship status, are eligible for P-EBT. Families will receive P-EBT cards automatically and do not need to complete an application. Each child will receive their own card mailed to their primary address in Aspen. Please ensure your address is up to date in order to receive this benefit.

Cards will be mailed in March and should arrive in an unmarked envelope. Families should keep their P-EBT card because future benefits will continue to be loaded onto the same card.

For additional information on this program, please view the FAQs, call the Healthy CPS

Hotline at 773-553-KIDS or complete the Healthy CPS Encounter form.

--------

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

Happy 100th Day of School! What a special day to celebrate that our students and teachers have been learning and growing together for 100 days! Please enjoy the Kindergartener's celebratory messages by clicking the picture below!

Today, we welcomed back our K-5 teachers and staff. Everyone's smiles were radiating through the hallways, even through their masks! As we prepare to welcome our K-5 students next week, please be reminded that this week will be the last week for Quarter 3 Supply Pick Up. All visitors will be limited for entry into the building and must ring the bell at Door #1 beginning on Monday, March 1st.

We look forward to Friday's big Heart Challenge Event! Let's continue to #BeBateman.

Our best,
Georgia & Kate

Reopening Updates
We will continue to update our community with information and FAQs.
Newly added items will be included in this section of the Buzz.

What steps would I take if I want to switch the learning model for my child?
If you selected Learn at Home, you are unable to switch to the Hybrid-Pod Model until 4th quarter. If you selected Hybrid and would like to switch to the Learn from Home model, please email bateman@cps.edu as soon as possible to support planning.

When will I know my own child’s pod assignment and teacher assignment?
Families were notified of shift assignments Friday, January 22nd via email and phone calls throughout the week. This included information for both In-Person Learners and Remote Learners. If families did not receive information via email, please contact the North Office to update contact information for primary and secondary email accounts.

When will I know my own child’s schedule for February?
Teachers have been collaborating and learning best practices for Reopening to ensure an exemplary educational experience is provided for all students, regardless of their learning location. Teachers shared schedules for in-person learners and remote learners on Friday, January 29th via email.

What steps are necessary to receive the Health Screener text or email?
Parents and guardians of In-Person learners are required to complete a daily health screener for each child attending school. CPS sends a text message or email to the primary contact for each child around 6:00 am. The screener must be completed the morning of attendance no later than 7:30am. To verify that parents or guardians receive the daily reminder, ensure that you have "opted in" to receive district notifications in the North Office by phone at 773-534-5055 or email Ms. Rivera. If you have been receiving the emails to parents with updates regarding reopening, you're all set!

What does arrival and dismissal look like?
Students in attendance can begin arriving on campus at 8:00am. Doors will open at 8:05 to begin the health screener protocol. Again, it is imperative for all students to complete the health screener prior to entering the building. Please see below for the entry and dismissal procedure. Doors will be the same for arrival and dismissal.

Entry Times:
All Students: 8:05 am - 8:15 am

Dismissal Times:
Pk - 4:  3:00 pm
5-8:  3:15 pm

COVID Case Procedures
If a staff member or student tests positive for COVID the first important step to take is to report the case to the
COVID-19 self-reporting tool. The Office of Student Health & Wellness will then determine who was exposed (close contact for more than 15 mins) and who needs to quarantine. If a staff member tests positive as part of the CPS on-site COVID-19 testing then the pods exposed will be required to quarantine and launch in to remote learning.

Click below for tools to guide you through the process, should the need arise:

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families & Friends,

Yesterday evening, CPS announced that a tentative agreement has been reached to welcome our staff and students safely back to the building. In the midst of much uncertainty, our educators worked diligently on Friday morning to ensure that instructional approaches, curriculum, and social and emotional strategies remain consistent for the upcoming quarter - a framework that will help support our students towards certainty.

Throughout the Staff Development Day on Friday, educator teams collaborated around reopening protocols, analyzed Quarter 3 units of study to prepare performance tasks for remote and in person learners, received training on social and emotional strategies for both themselves as adults and methods to support our students during reopening, and created informative tools for parents to see the scope and sequence of learning for Quarter 3. Please see below for some of highlights from their work time!

Celebrating Black History at Bateman
Educators have been bringing lessons around Black History to life at all grade levels to promote a culture of inclusivity and those who came before them. In Ms. Howland's classroom, students compared Ruby Bridges, who helped integrate Louisiana schools for Black and white children, and Sylvia Mendez, who helped integrate California schools for Latino and white children.  Check out some of their work here!  Our second graders were also inspired by amazing Black Americans and thought about how THEY will be amazing. Students talked about how Black people's achievements have been ignored in the past, and resolved that we will celebrate everyone.

In Ms. Chrisman's art experience, your children will have the opportunity to learn about several Black Artists, including those featured below! Check back to see how our artists were inspired by their pieces!

Quarter 3 At-A-Glance
Parents, please take the time to read what your child's learning will look like for the upcoming quarter. Educators have created a go-to tool for you to access learning standards and concepts that your child will be working towards mastery this quarter! Please look at your child's Quarter 3 At-A-Glance today!

  • Remote Learning will continue for all students tomorrow, Monday, February 1st.
  • Please continue to follow your remote learning schedules as you have throughout the entirety of this year.
  • As of right now, families of students who are scheduled for K-8 Shift A, 4 Days, and Preschool In-Person Learners should plan to come for in-person learning on Tuesday, February 2nd.

All grade level teams emailed Hybrid and Remote schedules that will begin once Hybrid Learning starts. If you have not received your child's Reopening Schedule, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. We will be expanding more on our collaborative process of planning these schedules in the Bateman Buzz tomorrow.

Thank you all for your support, flexibility, and understanding during this time. As always, we will continue to keep you as informed as possible and above all, we will continue to #BeBateman.

Our best,
Georgia & Kate

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We didn’t think we could say it anymore in a given year but we would be remiss not to acknowledge the incredible flexibility and responsiveness of our teachers, students, and parent community. Earlier in the week, in less than 12 hours, schedules were re-created, tasks re-assigned, and all were re-adjusted to an adapted plan for the week. It truly takes a community to make this all possible. We remain flexible and responsive for tomorrow’s schedule. Teachers will continue to follow the asynchronous afternoon schedule as planned - we know that many families need to coordinate ahead of time and in an attempt to minimize schedule accommodations from the beginning of the week we will make as few alterations as possible. We contacted preschool families earlier this evening to reiterate district directives for no in-person learning tomorrow, January 27th.

Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting with nearly 75 families to discuss our reopening plan and this afternoon, we met with our entire team of educators to review Reopening protocols and provide updates. While we are currently informing families and staff particularly on details regarding in-person learning, we want to emphasize that ensuring an exceptional educational experience for each of our students is in the forefront of our planning. We recognize that families have had to endure a difficult decision making process for Quarter 3 and ask that all families join us in supporting one another through this transition. Each family has made a personal choice with the best intentions for their own child. Although we may be spread across our community, it is critical that we remain one Bateman Family.

Please see below for additional updates and continue checking your emails and news outlets for the most up to date information regarding the CPS K-8 Reopening. We will continue to keep you as informed as possible and are grateful for your continued trust and partnership as we navigate the upcoming weeks.

Our very best,
Georgia & Kate

Reopening Updates
We will continue to update our community with information and FAQs.
Newly added items will be included in this section of the Buzz.

What steps would I take if I want to switch the learning model for my child?
If you selected Learn at Home, you are unable to switch to the Hybrid-Pod Model until 4th quarter. If you selected Hybrid and would like to switch to the Learn from Home model, please email bateman@cps.edu as soon as possible to support planning.

When will I know my own child’s pod assignment and teacher assignment?
Families were notified of shift assignments by Friday, January 22nd via email and phone calls throughout the week.

Teachers will be sharing schedules for in-person learners and remote learners by Friday, January 29th via email.

Message from Administration

Dear Bateman Families and Friends,

We hope you had a wonderful time this weekend and had some time to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  There are many great words of wisdom that he left us. Whether it was America’s children or his own, Dr. King emphasized coexisting and expressing love and care for one another throughout his famous speeches. He used images of brotherhood and children to exemplify the relationships he believed Americans should have with one another. To Dr. King, family referred to more than blood relatives - it encompassed all people. Today, his message of prioritizing family is forever ingrained in his legacy, stands as a lesson to be studied and appreciated by generations to come, and can be seen throughout the Bateman Community.

As we are creating the reopening plans for our K-8 students, we have been calling, emailing, and notifying specific families as early as possible with updates and decisions. To date, we have contacted nearly 90% of our Hybrid families via phone and look forward to meeting with parents of hybrid students tomorrow evening. An invite to the virtual meeting will be sent to the primary email contact of the child's Aspen account. Although we are still awaiting many details, we look forward to an open conversation with our families during which we will share processes and an overview of instructional options within the school.

Please be reminded that next week, all classes will be asynchronous in the afternoon to allow for teacher planning and preparation for reopening. Morning schedules will resume. Teachers will be sending updates in their weekly learning plan email.

We want to thank all of you for your patience through all of this!  We’ve never been more proud of our students, teachers, and families as we prepare to welcome students into our building during this unprecedented time.   #BeBatemanStrong!

When will I know my own child’s pod assignment, their schedule and teacher assignment?
The specific scheduling of individual students is dependent on our staff return data. The district is reviewing the staff leave requests and had projected those approvals to be communicated to us by Friday, January 15th; however, we are still awaiting determinations. We are still hopeful to communicate student schedules and pod assignments by the end of the week of January 18th to families.
