Latte with our Leaders
Friday, November 9th at 8:30am in the Library
Please join us for our Quarter 1 Latte with our Leaders of the year! We are looking forward to enjoying some coffee with our community each quarter and discuss important topics in the school. This quarter, we will be discussing our SQRP. Hope to see you there! Please feel free to bring any treats to share!
I am thrilled to be recognized as November's teacher of the month! I love working at Bateman because I truly feel our community lives by our core values. This is my second year at Bateman and I feel so lucky to work with amazing colleagues and students every day.
I was born in Illinois but grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. I moved back to Illinois to pursue a college education and graduated from Loyola University with certifications in general education, special education, and ESL. Now I live in Albany Park, so I get to walk to school and see some of my students along the way.
This year I've had the opportunity to work alongside my amazing co-teachers to support 4th and 5-graders in math. I never thought I would grow up to be a math teacher because it was really hard for me in school, but now I love teaching it!
When I'm not teaching, I like to travel and spend time with my friends and family. I also am a debate instructor in the summer, which is something I've been doing since I was in high school.
On Saturday, Oct. 20, Bateman hosted its annual Chess Invitational. Nearly 70 students from six other schools joined 20 Bateman players in the Bateman auditorium for five rounds of competitive chess. The Bateman 5th-8th grade team placed second with some great chess games played by many of our players. In the Advanced section, Chris S. and Andrew T. earned individual honors. Skinner North Elementary has proven itself a chess powerhouse sweeping the three sections.
Many Bateman staff members and families helped to organize and run a full day of chess activities. This tournament serves as a preseason event, and now that the afternoon Chess Club and morning Chess All-Stars are up and running, look out for more updates from the Bateman Chess Team.
We want to thank a number of people who helped make this year's Booster fest the best one yet! We want to thank all of our volunteers: parents, community members, teachers, staff, and former Bateman students. We also liked to thank our sponsors; 33rd Ward / Deb Mell, 40th Dist State Rep / Jaime Andrade, Lutz Cafe, Dovetail Studios, Childrens Lighthouse, Gallagher Carpentry, Miss Jaime from the farm, Longford Construction, HQ-Howard Quintero, Tano's Pizza, and The Kedzie Inn.
