I am truly honored to be nominated as Bateman’s Teacher of the Month. I love teaching and helping students achieve their goals. I feel that any child can learn so much when given the opportunity in an environment were they feel loved, safe and respected. I love working at Bateman and it has been a privilege to work here for the past 12 years. I started working here as a substitute in room 102, a Kindergarten teacher for 6 years and this is my 6th year as a Preschool teacher.
My parents immigrated to the U.S from Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico in the 1970’s. My two sisters, two brothers and I were born and raised on the Northwest Side of Chicago. My father passed away when I was ten years old and that made us grow up quickly. My job as the second oldest sibling was to help the take care of the younger ones , as well as, help with their homework while my mom was at work. I always pretended to be the teacher and so it came naturally that I would become a teacher. I am a graduate of Chicago Public Schools (James Monroe and Carl Schurz High School). I received my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from Northeastern Illinois University. After I got married and had children I went back to school to receive my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Bilingual/ESL endorsement. I try to instill the importance of school and hard work to my children. I teach them not to give up and keep trying no matter what challenges they may face in school or in life. When not at school, I love to watch movies, visit museums, read books and spend time with my family. “I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care.” -Lou Holtz Comments are closed.
