Dear Bateman Families,

Happy New Year!  We hope that you and your families had a safe and relaxing winter break. We are incredibly thankful for your dedication, commitment, and look forward to starting 2022 strong.

With the COVID-19 rates high, please remain vigilant and cautious, recognizing mitigation measures inside and outside of school while remaining home and seeking a COVID-19 test when any symptoms arise or exposures occur. Thank you in advance for your ongoing partnership as we return to school!

As of right now the district plans to open schools for in-person learning on Monday, January 3rd.  Please find below various information to help clarify the district’s policies and reinforce the protocols to help us stay healthy:

  1. COVID Reporting Protocol: If your child currently has COVID, or did over the break, please report the case by clicking here. CPS Contact Tracing will then email you the date of the return to school for your child. Once you receive that email, you may forward it to your child’s teacher. They will then provide asynchronous work within 24 hours following your email.

  2. Sick Protocol: Please have your child stay home if they are sick or have any symptoms regardless of their vaccination status. Click here for a list of symptoms that would require a student to remain home.

  3. Travel Protocol: If your child traveled over the break, follow directions fromCDPH’S Travel Advisory. If your child is unvaccinated, and traveled to an “orange” state, please have them get tested with a viral COVID test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days.

  4. Vaccination Status: Please ensure we have your child’s vaccination card on file with the school if they are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means two week after their second dose. In the case of needing to switch learning to remote instruction, students with vaccination cards on file can return to school once remote learning launches. Please stop by the main office between 8am-3pm starting this Monday to have their vaccination card inputted in our system. We will also accept an email copy of the vaccination card and please forward it to Nurse Anna adorosz@cps.edu and Ms. Castro mcastro49@cps.edu.

  5. Vaccination: Students ages 5 and up are eligible for COVID vaccinations. If your child has yet to be vaccinated, click here for support in signing up for a vaccination.

  6. Reminder about delay for remote learning: Though asymptomatic, vaccinated students do not need to quarantine and educators are provided a 24 hour period to plan for remote instruction. If the district determines a full class needs to flip to remote instruction, all students in the class will be home during this 24 hour period. Then students who are vaccinated may return in person, while those unvaccinated, or sick, will access learning remotely. During that 24 hour window, the school will also pass out technology and materials for those learning from home remotely as needed.

  7. COVID Testing: We highly recommend signing up your child for weekly school COVID testing. Testing is offered to students and staff every Tuesday at Bateman. Staff will be on site from 9am - 3:15pm in the North Office to provide weekly testing for our students who have registered. If you have previously registered, please do not re-register. If you have not previously registered and would like for your child to participate in the weekly COVID-19 Testing, please click the Color Health Registration Link to register for student(s). This process provides consent for your child to participate weekly - you will not need to re-consent each time.

Students who have consent and who are asymptomatic will be escorted to the North Office and given a PCR COVID-19 test. The test will involve a nasal swab, which gently touches the inner part of the lower nostril. There will be medical personnel on site to supervise swabbing and support students if needed. Results of the PCR test are shared with the person who tested, the district for contact tracing purposes, and state health authorities as required by law.

For more information regarding the weekly COVID-19 Testing procedures, please visit the CPS COVID Testing FAQs Page.

Please know that while CPS has encouraged COVID testing prior to January 3, students are not required to test before returning to school on Monday. However, if your student is not feeling well on Monday or is showing any symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them at home.

Families with unvaccinated students should also pay careful attention to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) travel advisory guidance. Additionally, students who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should get tested on Day 5 after exposure.

Please make sure to be on the lookout for any future communications from the district as things are constantly changing and visit cps.edu/covidfaq for an FAQ that will help you get your questions answered as you prepare for a safe return to school. Know that we are here to help navigate through all of this together and we will do our very best to communicate the most up-to-date information to our families.

We understand the stress that many of you are feeling as you try to keep your children safe during this most recent surge of COVID-19, and we want you to know that their health and wellbeing remains a top priority.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday! #BeBatemanStrong

Warmly,

Georgia Davos & Kate Kloepper

#SeaBatemanFuerte

Calurosamente,

Georgia Davos y Kate Kloepper
